Job description

Ultra Precision Control Systems (PCS) are looking for a Materials and REACH Engineer. In this role you will support the delivery of engineering work as part of a team, working under the guidance of senior staff and within the wider context of the business.
You'll apply your engineering skills to help develop engineering solutions and manage REACH related engineering tasks related to their own discipline within time, cost, and quality constraints, in support of any reasonable request from internal departments within the whole of PCS as well as the ongoing technical support of external customers through to a successful conclusion.
An engineer at this level will be a competent practitioner of their own discipline and will apply their technical / professional knowledge and experience to assist judgements and support decision making. They should also be open to new challenges involving tasks outside of their area of expertise with a willing ness to learn and evolve.
At this level you'd be expected to support the bid and proposal process by providing estimates for work packages within your own discipline, and may be coordinating with other disciplines to identify dependencies to ensure your own work packages can be delivered.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Keeping up to date with REACH Legislation and advising Ultra of REACH Strategy
  • Training members of staff on REACH Legislation and processes
  • Advising Engineers of material selection with respect to ensuring and maintaining REACH Compliance
  • Developing REACH workflow & processes
  • Researching and advising new material technologies
  • Develop solutions and solve problems within own discipline to deliver allocated REACH related engineering tasks on-time, on-quality and on-budget.
  • Ensure the SVHC list is monitored regularly, and any related software or spreadsheets are kept up to date and any new information is acted upon appropriately.
  • Contribute to technical/professional processes .
  • Work under minimal supervision to achieve engineering and manufacturing objectives on-time, on-quality and on-budget which will directly impact positive project outcomes.
  • Influence decisions by providing advice within closely related working teams.
  • Remain aware of trends and emerging technology and tools within own discipline.
  • Assist with technical work packages and coordinate of work.
  • Estimate scope of work within own discipline and work with other disciplines to identify dependencies and ensure the deliverability of own work package.
  • Contribute to the definition of standards and specifications around which others will operate.
  • Write reports and present work undertaken at peer and design reviews.
  • Maintain professional competencies required to perform at this level.
  • Demonstrate and adhere to the Ultra ASPIRE values at all times.
  • Occasionally carry out duties off-site as required.
  • Adhere to Ultra policies, procedures, and practices at all times.
  • Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by management.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • Relevant qualifications to an appropriate level, typically a bachelor’s degree, a recognised apprenticeship or equivalent experience, with experience within a relevant engineering environment.
  • Knowledge of current legislation (REACH, RoSH, Weee, CE & UKCA marking etc) and how it affects products and delivery.
  • Taking ownership of REACH related monitoring and actions related to TC12 PLM software.
  • Basic understanding of the schematic capture tool
  • Basic understanding of PCB design techniques and construction
  • Basic understanding of Board manufacturing methodologies
  • Provide subcontractor support and management.
  • Basic material performance and selection knowledge.
  • Have a basic awareness of other disciplines (Software, Mechanical, Systems and ILS) with a view to cooperatively managing materials in a design, where necessary.
  • Product development and the product lifecycle knowledge.
  • Help to identify risks and opportunities, take ownership of mitigation plans and execute.
  • Ability to deal with customers and suppliers to achieve a common goal.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and testing processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of products used in Aerospace, Land and Ground Test Equipment
  • An understanding of product development practices in aerospace and safety critical sectors in accordance with ISO9001 and AS9100
  • Basic understanding of hardware design and DO254
  • Have an understanding of environmental issues and DO160
  • Knowledge of PLM and ERP systems
  • Good knowledge of 2D/3D drawing packages
  • Understanding of Quality systems.
