Materials Scientist - Synthetic Organic Chemistry

A growing scientific technology and innovation house based in Cambridge are in the process of expansion and are hiring for an organic chemist to join their materials research team.

As a Materials Scientist / organic chemist, you will be charged with accelerating the development of the next generation materials. This will include working within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers to maximise the performance of new materials, specifically working on the synthesis of novel organic emitters for fluorescent nanoparticles. You will have full ownership of your work, taking ideas from eureka moment through testing and manufacture.

Some other key parts to the role will include;

  • The design, synthesis, purification, and characterisation of novel organic emitters
  • The execution of straightforward and complex Synthetic Organic Chemistry transformations to a high standard of purity, with high-quality documentation.
  • The full characterisation of all materials prepared and highlighting of anomalies in the results.
  • Recommend ways to solve synthetic chemistry issues.

To be considered for this role we are looking for people with strong knowledge of Organic Chemistry or materials science, coupled with experience in the design and successful synthesis of novel organic molecules. This experience will be backed up with chemistry-related academics, ideally to PhD level This will be a two-year fixed term contract, with a view to be made permanent thereafter, although that is not guaranteed.
