Job description

Full time/Term time 38 weeks

Are you passionate about making a positive impact on young people's lives? Are you eager to support their educational journey and help them achieve their full potential?

We're seeking dedicated and enthusiastic Maths Coaches to join our established maths team at Oldham College. These full-time, 38-week, positions offer a rewarding role for individuals who are keen on working with young people and potentially pursuing a future in teaching.

As a Maths Coach, you'll play a pivotal role in our students' maths success by contributing to their individual progress against specific target areas, delivering engaging group sessions, and providing personalised support and guidance. You'll work closely with students to set and monitor targets related to achievement, retention, attendance, and progression, while also collaborating with maths teachers to develop resources to support their learning experience.

The ideal candidates will possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive under pressure while managing multiple deadlines. You'll need to be self-motivated, a strong team player, and proficient in IT skills. Most importantly, you'll have a genuine passion for working with young people and providing them with the support they need to succeed.

While a graduate degree is desirable, we welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of our students. A full training package will be available to develop and support you in this role. Join our vibrant, enthusiastic, and friendly team and become part of a community dedicated to empowering the next generation.

The Role:

We are looking for Maths Coaches to work in our growing department. If you want to help to develop innovative teaching and learning strategies to enable our students to achieve their highest potential then Oldham College is for you!

In this role you will:

  • Inspire, challenge and support others to enable them to achieve more than they thought possible;
  • Be an outstanding practitioner and role model for all;
  • Nurture a culture of professional development that is integrated seamlessly in everyday practice;
  • Be bold, optimistic and tenacious in setting and achieving high standards;
  • Drive Oldham College’s vision and expectations to have a significant impact on students’ life chances

You must have a minimum of a Grade C/4 in GCSE Mathematics and GCSE English or Level 2 Functional Skills and experience of working in a support/mentoring/educator role.

AS/A Level Maths or a Level 3 qualification in a relevant subject such as Statistics or Core Maths is also required.

A Degree in Mathematics or an associated field is desirable but not essential, in addition to experience of working within the secondary or FE sector.

Oldham College is a medium sized general further education college, with a turnover of almost £25m. It has one main campus in the centre of town, and this in the third phases of a £40m redevelopment which began in 2012.   Higher education is taught on a second, dedicated campus, a short walk away. The College delivers a full range of work-related education and training, including 16-18 programmes of study, T levels, apprenticeships, adult learning and higher education. It has over 5000 full-time students and 600 undergraduates.

The College is in the top quartile for 16-18 programmes of study and English GCSE resits, and in apprenticeship provision, but is the second highest performing provider Greater Manchester. The quality of its higher education provision is better than many established universities.

Further details including a Person Specification are included within the attached Job Description.

  • Generous Pension Scheme
  • Fantastic Staff Benefits and Rewards platform
