Vehicle Mechanic/MOT Tester
36.00 hours per week on a alternating 3 weekly basis.
Primary purpose of the job:
To carry out in depth examination of all vehicles presented for MOT Testing under existing legislation and to V.O.S.A. standards.
Maintain and service all types of vehicles, particularly as contained in the city council's fleet of vehicles, including inspections to VOSA standards.
Main duties and responsibilities/accountabilities:
1 Must be fully conversant with all aspects of vehicle repairs
2 To maintain all relevant documentation, test certificates, records and appointment systems.
3 Must possess a current V.O.S.A. Vehicle Examiner Certificate to all classes of approved/relevant tests (IV,VII & V Light), and should be aware of current MOT Test requirement's and applicable legislation
4 To carry out repairs/maintenance up to major overall standard on a wide range vehicle's and associated plant equipment, including municipal specialist equipment, (e.g. bin lifts, refuse compacting equipment, road sweepers, gritter vehicles and equipment, passenger tail lifts, and gully cleaning machinery).
5 Operate all existing or projected associated garage equipment as agreed from time to time eg, brake testing equipment, exhaust gas analysing equipment diesel smoke testing equipment and all other equipment that may be introduced in order to enhance the service provided.
6 To maintain and complete daily documents - job tickets, inspection sheets, including test reports eg; brake test and exhaust emissions, and daily time sheets.
7 Take care of all tools and equipment borrowed from the stores and ensure all is clean and serviceable on return to stores
8 To maintain personal tools in good condition and to ensure their suitability to the work required of them.
9 Be prepared to work on dirty vehicles and equipment, and in adverse weather conditions if necessary.
10 To be fully aware of the importance of Customer Care in all activities.
11 Ensure that all Health and Safety at work procedures are adhered to
12 To carry out his/hers duties with full regard to the City Council's policies and procedures
13 To undertake flexibly in line with business needs.
14 To undertake any training as may be required to equip the post holder for the enhanced performance of his/her existing or future duties
15 To give advise, information and training to apprentice's
