Mechanical Design Engineers - VARIOUS UK LOCATIONS - COMPETITIVE SALARY

Time-Served Fully Qualified - Senior and Principal Mechanical Design Engineers required ASAP across various UK locations including Cumbria, Preston, Warrington, North East, Bristol etc. - OFFICE BASED AND PREFERABLY WITHIN THE NUCLEAR SECTOR.

Experience within Pipework and HVAC Nuclear Design having worked on large projects is highly desirable!

Responsibilitiies:

The primary responsibility of the Senior and Principal Engineer is to oversee the execution of engineering and technical tasks, utilizing established processes, domain expertise, and accumulated experience.

At this level, the Senior and Principal Engineer, possessing extensive experience and a well-developed proficiency in a specialized field, addresses specific technical challenges, compiles technical reports and presentations, and ensures compliance with specifications aligned with stakeholder needs. The role involves mentoring and guiding colleagues within the discipline, enhancing business awareness, cultivating robust relationships with stakeholders, and operating autonomously with limited technical guidance or as part of a small team.

Key Responsibilities: In this capacity, the experienced engineer assumes direct accountability for designing, developing, and devising solutions for problems within a specialized subject area. The role encompasses working on engineering challenges characterized by high complexity and uncertainty, providing guidance to less experienced team members, and fostering their effective performance and growth.

Additionally, the role requires strict adherence to Health & Safety standards, comprehensive familiarity with authorized documentation, Good Practice Guides, and ISO standards. The key responsibilities include, but are nor limited to.

  • Facilitate effective collaboration across Engineering and other functional teams.
  • Assist in managing customer relationships, fostering business development, resolving technical and delivery issues, and ensuring customer awareness of progress.
  • Identify and apply procedures, codes, and standards accurately to engineering and technical activities.
  • Contribute to the Project Safety Assessment process.
  • Communicate and manage task and project risks appropriately.
  • Produce, review, and approve calculations, analyses, drawings, models, design basis documentation, and technical reports.
  • Evaluate the implications of changes, concessions, and queries.
  • Maintain engineering configuration throughout the design lifecycle, ensuring design intent and integrity.
  • Assess technical issues and propose investigations or solutions, including process improvements.
  • Support the Project Manager in planning, controlling, and delivering tasks and projects.
  • Make engineering decisions within the delegated authority and own sphere of responsibility.
  • Act as Technical Authority or Engineering Lead when authorized.
  • Uphold the highest standards for health and safety in the immediate area of responsibility.
  • Stay updated on relevant technical areas, develop skills, and contribute to a culture of engineering best practices.
  • Contribute to learning from experience (LfE) during and post-project.
  • Support business development opportunities.
  • Exercise care for personal and others' health and safety as defined by legislation and company standards.
  • Support the business-winning process through input or review of tender requirements.

Experience / Qualifications / Skills (Essential)

  • Engineering degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant engineering discipline with significant demonstrable experience.
  • Chartered Engineer status or actively working toward Chartered Status.
  • Experience collaborating in multi-discipline teams on various project types.
  • Demonstrable experience across a range of tasks with varying complexities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interface with other disciplines.

Experience / Qualifications / Skills (Desirable)

  • Membership in a relevant institute or significant demonstrable engineering experience with the capability of Engineering Council registration.
  • Experience in managing engineering scope for projects from concept design to full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC).
  • Broad and deep experience in a range of commercial or defense projects.
