Mechanical Design Engineer

AWE is currently recruiting for a Mechanical Design Engineer to help support its Target Fabrication Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the creation of component and assembly drawings as well as supporting drafting drawings for jig and fixtures to aid process improvement and assist with target assembly. This is an ideal opportunity for those who have a keen interest in science and engineering, as well as bring interested in a role where they are fully supported to work in our Orion Laser Facility.

Package: £27,960 - £41,940 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

The Role?

The role will give the successful candidate the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, working along highly skilled scientists and engineers in the support of High Energy Density (HED) Plasma Physics. This role will develop your knowledge and skills by producing details assembly drawings and individual component drawings to aid manufacture of critical components. Working as part of a successful team, this unique and exciting role will contribute to the delivery of targets that support HED Plasma Physics experiments on laser facilities in the UK and around the world.

Key Responsibilities of a Mechanical Design Engineer:

• Produce detailed target component and target assembly drawings.
• Support the development of jigs and fixtures to aid assembly / manufacture of critical components.
• Taking responsibilities of the quality of the work you deliver.
• Support continuous improvement activities within the local area.
• Maintain high levels of document/drawing configuration and control.
• Support the development of CAM Programmes to aid CNC machining activities.

Key Accountabilities of a Mechanical Design Engineer:

• To provide technical support to the Target Fabrication group, working closely with the Trials Managers, Manufacturing Engineers, and Assembly Technicians.
• To provide technical support to internal stakeholders to ensure that critical design features are accurately recorded.
• Maintain and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality and be a great team player.

Essential:

• Current working experience of producing CAD drawings.
• Working knowledge of legislation and standards applicable to engineering design.
• Awareness of document configuration and control.
• Good communication skills, verbal and written.
• Ability to work with others collaboratively in a team setting.
• Enthusiastic, positive, proactive, have a flexible attitude and able to take the initiative.
• Appreciating the need for quality.
• A positive attitude towards Health and Safety.

Desirable:

• Knowledge and awareness of CAM programming.

• Knowledge of Teamcenter NX.
