We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of new products and sub-systems. As our Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be employing core technology and existing product knowledge while exploring new business opportunities. The products you will be developing will be used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, and energy sectors.

Key Accountabilities:
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will drive root cause analysis exercises and use mechanical interactions understanding to deliver optimal solutions for problems from first principles.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will work with stakeholders to prepare detailed product specifications, BOMs and supporting technical documentation.
- Using these specifications, our Mechanical Design Engineer will create and develop the designs and manufacturing drawings.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will develop prototypes and support for verification testing, risk assessments, DFMEAs and validation exercises.
- Following the prototype development, our Mechanical Design Engineer will develop these designs for manufacture, assembly and servicing with support and input from the broader engineering team.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will be undertaking calculations/simulation as required for design justification (such as pressure/flow calculations, or structural FEA).
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will work alongside other engineering functions (such as Electronic Engineering) to ensure mechanical, electrical and pneumatic elements of each product are carefully integrated.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will collaborate with the internal compliance team and certification agencies to ensure products conform to all current regulations and standards.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will work closely with the Operations and Quality teams to ensure a smooth transition of new products and sub-systems into production.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will provide technical assistance to the Production, Service and Sales teams as required.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will undertake and support Engineering Change Requests, promoting thorough documentation control and lessons learned.
- Our Mechanical Design Engineer will be required to attend product launches and visit manufacturing facilities to resolve manufacturing challenges and speak to customers as required.
Experience Required:
- Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
- Minimum 4 years Mechanical Design Engineering experience inc. 4+ years’ experience of New Product Development for a variety of manufacturing processes (e.g. sheet metal fabrication), taking designs from concept through to production within a defined NPD process.
- Able to use workshop and laboratory tools for development builds and qualification testing.
- Knowledge of tools, such as DFMEA & PFMEA.
- Good knowledge of technical drawing to BS 8888, GD&T in addition to tolerance analysis.
- Excellent 3D CAD ability (ideally SolidWorks), robust modelling techniques and collaboration in a multi-user environment.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 (or similar) quality management systems.
- Experience of product verification and validation testing (such as ingress protection, corrosion, vibration, temperature).
