Horizon Engineering Solutions operates a City & Guild's Assured, Mechanical, Electrical and Carbon Training Academy and delivers Facility Management Solutions and Carbon Management Solutions to Global Companies across a wide range of business sectors.

To support our rapidly developing business we are now looking to appoint an experienced Mechanical & Electrical Shift Technician for our Northern Ireland based business.

Mechanical & Electrical Shift Technician

Place of Work: Northern Ireland

We are seeking a highly motivated, confident and safety conscious individual to support the operational and Maintenance requirements for one of our clients within the Belfast region. The individual will experience success from working in a fast-moving, challenging site environment and have a keen interest in personal development, specifically in the Mechanical, Electrical and Energy management fields.

Required Qualifications, Training & Aptitude

  1. Trade qualification in Mechanical / Electrical with a formal qualification (ONC/OND) or above in a related engineering discipline.
  2. Minimum of 2 years post apprenticeship experience in an industrial engineering environment.
  3. NEBOSH/IOSH desirable

Key Competencies

Experience (knowledge)

  1. 2 Years post qualification engineering experience across different industrial sectors. Operating within a regulated environment. Food and drink industrial experience preferable.
  2. Previous experience includes CHP operations, Boiler, Compressors, Chillers and CO2 generation.
  3. Demonstrate an ability to work as part of a Maintenance team to meet the needs of the client.
  4. Have knowledge of the use of all appropriate safety equipment, test/indicating equipment, and Safety Signs.
  5. Demonstrate ability to reach Electrical / Mechanical Approved Person status.

Job Skills (must be able to …)

  1. Demonstrate flexibility - i.e. ability to adjust rapidly and effectively to changes in clients’ needs.
  2. Demonstrate a high level of engineering contractor management skills
  3. Compliance with all clients and Horizon Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  4. Develop and maintain strong and sustainable relationships with clients and key service partners.
  5. Identify and generate onsite procedures and job guides to ensure consistency of practices through all the shift teams.
  6. Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and confidence in dealing with client management.
  7. Full Clean Driving license.

Personal Skills

  1. “Can do” attitude.
  2. Self-starter.
  3. Ability to work under stretch conditions.

Responsibilities

  1. Maintain and operate site utilities including CHP operations, Boiler, Compressors, Chillers and CO2 generation.
  2. Ensure that the site utilities being managed by Horizon are available to support the client’s production requirements.
  3. Support the delivery of all site services within budget.
  4. Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with Health, Safety & environmental regulations, permit to work and client procedures are strictly adhered to.
  5. Demonstrate significant improvements to the operations arising from analysis of feedback and changing business needs.
  6. To ensure records of work carried out are recorded on the clients CAFM system.
  7. Support out of hours emergencies on client site(s) if rostered to do so.
  8. Ensure that all daily routines are completed diligently and consistently.
  9. Act quickly/efficiently on issues arising from audits (e.g. audit close-outs).
  10. To attend daily/ weekly site meetings to agree appropriate maintenance is carried out with minimum disruption to production.
  11. To recommend to the site manager remedies that need to be carried out at the utilities plant to ensure its availability to support production required.
  12. Facilitate/mentor other shift personnel and new hires.
  13. Facilitate developmental/training requirements of teams & individuals.
  14. Identification of contract risks and identification of projects including contractor management.
  15. Identification of all spares to ensure no unnecessary downtime.
  16. Adopt an appropriate profile with all clients and ensure their needs are met.
  17. Ensure that all company procedures are adhered to and that quality standards are always maintained.
