Job Title: Mechanical Project Engineer Undergraduate Industrial Placement (1 Year fixed term)
Reports to: Project Manager Engineering
Location: London – Heathrow
The UK engineering team works as an integrated part of the Worldwide Vanderlande Engineering team consisting of over 800 engineers from all automated handling disciplines.
An undergraduate Engineer joining the UK Engineering team has the opportunity to gain valuable work experience through joining our projects, either here at Heathrow or across our wider UK portfolio. If you have a passion for engineering and willingness to learn, we will help you develop your design and layouting skills against challenging standards, all whilst adding value to our customers operations. The role is suited to someone who is comfortable with clearly defined work parameters, adherence to standards and procedures; a person who is patient and hard working.
Role Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Project Engineer on an industrial placement year as an undergraduate you will support our automation projects by creating the mechanical designs and layouts for our intralogistics equipment and systems.
The area of work is of a specialist/technical nature and the person fulfilling the role would be assigned to support our UK and Ireland based customers. There will be an opportunity for exposure to our customers and an on-site presence is required, so this is a role that cannot be undertaken remotely.
Your responsibilities and activities will include:
- Comprehend the user requirements, analyse the feasibility, and considers technical standards.
- Ensure that the mechanical system design is engineered following the relevant safety standards and regulations, such as performing detailed design risk assessments and CDM.
- Ensure detailed engineered system design can be manufactured within the available budget.
- Coordination of third-party equipment procurement and integration specifications.
- Deliver Project related layout packages, using tools such as AutoCAD and our own Vanderlande Engineering Suite of Tools (ESoT).
- Quality control of files and Data Management.
- Producing engineering instructions.
- Contributing to continuous improvement of the processes and policies, as well as learning continuously and developing self-professional potential and ability.
Role Qualification and Skills
Candidate should have knowledge of some of the following:
- Technologies and equipment used for Material Handling Systems.
- AutoCAD 3D, BIM Revit software applications and development of 3D layouts
- Knowledge of design standards and safety requirements, awareness of the Machinery directive.
- A desire to work in a multi-discipline environment (Electrical/Mechanical/Software/Safety)
Candidates must currently be undertaking their second year of a Mechanical Engineering degree at a UK university and be available to undertake their placement year between July 2024 and August 2025.
