What’s the role all about:

Role Description

As a member of the busy Operations and Maintenance Team, the Mechanical Fitter will play a key role in carrying out both Planned and Reactive maintenance to deliver the operational availability of Portsmouth Naval Base, whilst ensuring full compliance and Safe to Operate capability.

O&M Mechanical Fitter Role Purpose

We require you to deliver:

· Safe and professional mechanical planned and reactive maintenance on a variety of equipment, including

(but not limited to) Heating systems, LEV, saws, grinders, pumps, bandsaws hoists and winches and pillar drills

· Assist to maintain PNB Steam System alongside the Boiler House team

· Sound understanding of O&M KPI’s, ensuring all maintenance and repair work is delivered well within the KPI boundaries.

· Flexible attitude with the ability to work closely as part of a team and confident to be able to work unassisted when required, whilst carrying out maintenance, repair and testing on mechanical systems &machinery.

· Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, managing their expectations and needs.

· On Call rostered availability to cover the Harbour Radar repairs during normal and out of hours

· Remain alert to changing requirements and availability of resources in order to complete any maintenance or repairs, providing direct and regular feedback to Team Leader with regards to issues/delays.

· Use of mobile device to manage & deliver Tasks (work orders) assigned by Team Leader, via the Mobiess Application.

· As a Multiskilled engineer, be proactive in all working environments when requested with a can do attitude

Role Responsibilities of the O&M Mechanical Fitter

As part of delivering this role, you will typically be:

· Ensuring best engineering practice is used for the maintenance, overhaul, repair, installation and testing of mechanical equipment, machinery and systems.

· Ability to carry out basic mechanical fault finding and rectification.

· Confident in providing detailed defect reports to the Team Leader/Manager or a representative from the Chief Engineers department.

· Ensuring all tools and equipment being used are suitable and in date for any inspection required.

· Ensuring compliance of relevant KBS processes & procedures in the JMS, mitigating risks and improving the overall section SHE performance.

· Ensure all near miss and dangerous incidents are reported through the OSHENS reporting database.

· Completing all Point of Work Risk Assessments (PoWRA) before any Task is started and all required PPE is worn and in good condition.

· Ensure active participation of workers/Team members, ensuring the team are not exposed to risk or take short cuts and take an interest in the working environment.

· Guaranteeing Mechanical installations and equipment conform to regulations and are for the correct operation of safe systems of work.

Key Experience:

To succeed, you will ideally have:

· Completed a mechanical apprenticeship or have proven experience and knowledge in mechanical theory and principles.

· Gained or working towards industry accredited qualifications such as NVQ, C&G, Gas Safe, Steam accreditation.

· Competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment.

· Experience and knowledge in carrying out mechanical maintenance.

· Experience of carrying out mechanical fault finding and rectification, providing detailed reports.

· Have had experience in working with technical specifications and have a good understanding of safe systems of work.

· Ability to work under pressure and be able to schedule, coordinate and maintain efficiency.

· Knowledge and application of Health and Safety best practices

· IT literate.
