We are currently recruiting for an skilled individual with experience of Mechanical Inspection and Planning, based at Dowlow Quarry, Buxton.
Pease note, the official title of this role internally is Fitter.
  • This role will support maintenance vision for the fixed and mobile plant reliability at Dowlow and form part of the maintenance team. The role plays a key part in the drive for improved reliability and efficient plant operation through the effective monitoring of plant running and performance conditions to ensure any deterioration or defect is identified and repaired prior to failure.
  • The role will support the craft team in planned and reactive circumstances to ensure all required materials and spares are available to allow effective execution of tasks while minimising repair times.
  • The role will undertake duties in the form of mechanical Inspections and condition-based analysis/ techniques.
  • The role will monitor, collate, record, and analyse specific engineering and process measures and conditions, generate work orders to prevent unplanned premature plant failures.
  • The role will ensure planned maintenance schedules, condition reviews and task frequencies are prioritised based on a sound understanding of the equipment.
  • The role is critical to identifying any abnormal plant condition, monitoring until the necessary intervention is required and validating any reported defects by creating required work notifications and to carry out the small to mid-level planning.
  • The role may also on occasion need to support and work with the craft team during breakdown situations to help carry out the appropriate repairs.

Key Responsibilities


  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards at all times of their self and others.
  • Input and support to the continued development of the plant reliability and the continuous development of preventative maintenance schedules, FMEA’s and condition monitoring techniques to deliver the required level of plant reliability.Conduct first level and specific inspections in a proactive manner against a defined schedule and ensure any measurement set points or defects identified are inputted into the maintenance system.
  • To contribute to the continuing development of condition-based monitoring initiatives and systems by being aware of industry developments in own area of focuTo develop required service level agreements and evaluate condition reports, prioritise resulting actions and create work orders to rectify defects back to standard.
  • Carry out minor repairs within own capability and competence to support the continuous performance in your area of focus to drive the required levels of fixed asset reliability.
  • To monitor and trend condition set points and plant condition, predict maintenance activities, and provide reports for budget planning and to enable all repairs to be carried out in a planned and cost-effective manner.
  • Maintain inspection records and trends and ensure plant technical manuals are kept up to date with relevant information.
  • Carry out the planning of small to mid-level tasks to help with the day-to-day maintenance.
  • Review work notifications (screening) raised by others to verify validity and avoid duplications.
  • This is not an exhaustive list, and a Mechanical Inspector/Planner will undertake any reasonable request from line manager or above.

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise


Qualifications:
  • Time served mechanical apprenticeship or exposure in a relevant role.
  • ONC/HNC or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
Experience:
  • Five years mechanical maintenance experience
  • Knowledge of fixed plant inc. quarrying, crushing, screening and various materials handling equipment.
  • Previous experience in an inspection / reporting role is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in various forms of condition-based maintenance techniques is desirable.
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • IT Literate and experience with Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills.
  • An ability to demonstrate good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Must be meticulous and pay attention to detail with confidence to address actions with peers/line manager.
  • Demonstrate ability to prioritise decisions and propose actions.
  • Be proactive by proposing technical improvements by learning lessons from previous experiences.
  • Must have the ability to understand, collect, organise, and analyse data to understand cause and effects relationship.
