Job Description
Role and Responsibilities will include:
- Working in partnership with the Department Engineering Lead and department technicians to carry out repairs to process plant.
- Troubleshooting and practical fault finding on plant and mechanical systems.
- Reliability techniques such as laser alignment, vibration analysis and oil sampling.
- Installation of new plant or modifications as appropriate.
- Carry out planned inspection routes on process plant and proactive maintenance.
- During maintenance periods undertake maintenance activities as well as testing and commissioning plant in readiness for operations.
- Strip and overhauling of mechanical plant such as pumps, gearboxes, bearings and couplings.
- Reporting of all engineering activities in the appropriate format into the Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Making plant safe for maintenance/repairs.
- Competent to receive and/or authorise a range of permits as required.
The Successful Applicant
Applicants should be:
- Holding an NVQ level 3 in Mechanical Engineering supported by a recognised apprenticeship.
- Comprehensive technical knowledge and hands on skills gained through large scale, complex operational factory experience.
- Understanding of hazards and controls associated with a complex industrial environment.
- A proven track record of effective technical problem solving, fault diagnosis, maintenance and continuous improvement.
- Ability to work as an individual and withing a team environment.
- Ability to effectively balance urgent and important tasks.
- Experience of working in a lean operating environment.
- Experience of working in an operational team of varying disciplines and skill levels.
- A background in quarry, mining, refractory, power station or other heavy industry would be advantageous.

- Basic salary of £50,300, reviewed to £52,300 on completion of competency sign off.
