Medical Examiner Officer

The Medical Examiner Officer (MEO) role is to support the senior Lead / leadMedical Examiner Officer in the daily operational activity of theMedical Examiner (ME) service Work in partnership with the Mortuary, Bereavement Service, onsite Coroners officers, Registrars, local spiritual/faithrepresentatives & funeral services to provide streamlined servicesfor bereaved families. To Liaise with the Palliative Care team and work within the End ofLife Care Strategy where this relates to the ME Service. To be a central point of contact for the relatives of deceasedpatients, coordinating communications with other services andproviding a seamless and compassionate experience for thebereaved. Listens to relatives concerns and take action to address theseand any pre/informal/formal complaints. Through delegated responsibility the MEOs will scrutinise thepatient record and prioritise cases of concern or those forpotential Serious Investigation or Coronial investigation to theME. With delegated responsibility from the Lead MEO, to refermandatory cases for SJR Mortality Review and also an additionalminimum of 20% of cases per speciality. Liaise with the Head of Clinical Effectiveness and Audit &Effectiveness Manager in relation to the SJR Mortality Reviewsmanagement and reporting & trust data system Morbidity &Mortality Review (MaMR) Refer cases for Learning Disabilities reviews (LeDeR) in liaisonwith the Matron for Learning Disabilities. Liaise with the Head of Clinical Case Management & ClinicalCase Manager in relation to Serious Incident and Coronial Casesto monitor To work within service policies, guidelines and protocols for theMedical Examiner function To support the Lead MEO in providing data for performance andassurance reports for relevant internal and external stakeholders,including the End of Life Mortality Board, Divisional and TrustSafety & Quality committees, Commissioning groups andregulators
