About the role:
A vacancy has arisen for a Medical Laboratory Assistant in our Sample Reception Department based at Barnet Hospital. You will be joining a wider team of some 40 Medical Laboratory Assistants, working each day from Monday to Friday.
You will be joining the shift which operates from 12:00pm – 20:30pm Monday to Friday. there will be occasional weekend and nightshift cover required – usually one shift per month.
The role will involve performing routine preparation and tests, including basic analytical processes, accurately and efficiently under the supervision of a qualified BMS, bringing any unusual test requests or results to the attention of the appropriate member of staff. The successful candidate will also be required to enter patient requests into the pathology computer system (WinPath) and carry out clerical and technical tasks in accordance with sample handling procedures. Staff will be required to assist in handling and distribution of incoming and outgoing goods, equipment, specimens and reagents.
The laboratory operates a 24/7 service so the successful candidate will be expected to participate in shifts to cover this time-frame and to manage all on-site testing of acutely unwell patients for COVID.
You will need to demonstrate on your CV a genuine interest in Science, ideally some theoretical and practical knowledge of pathology, an awareness of Quality Management Principles in a Healthcare setting and experience of computers and IT – Microsoft Office
