Job description

Cambridge University Mental Health Advice Service is seeking to recruit a Mental Health Adviser to support students with serious or enduring Mental Health problems and help them access the specialist services they need.

You will work with staff in the Colleges, Counselling Service and Disability Resource Centre, as well as with Cambridge & Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust, to develop and enhance Mental Health support to students of the university.

This is a significant position in this large, busy and well-respected multi-disciplinary service.

You will:

  • be professionally qualified as a Registered Mental Health Nurse, Mental Health Social Worker or Psychologist, and have significant relevant work experience
  • have clinical experience of working with young adults who present with severe, complex and enduring Mental Health difficulties
  • have specialist experience of assessing Mental Health needs and the appropriate management and escalation of safeguarding risks
  • have knowledge of the range of local NHS and third sector Mental Health services available in Cambridge when external referral is required
  • have experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a collaborative approach
  • have ability to establish and maintain personal and professional boundaries
  • be emotional resilience to work calmly under pressure, containing anxiety in self and others
  • have a positive and flexible approach to problem solving

We are currently working in a hybrid model. You will need to take this into consideration as you do need to be able to work in a secure environment whereby all information will be managed in a confidential manner at all times.

This is a part-time (o.6 FTE) and Fixed Term position, until September 2025.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service check (enhanced with adults' barred list).
