Job description

1. Communication/Relationship Skills (covers providing and receiving routine, complex or highly complex information, barriers to understanding, communicating sensitive or contentious information) To ensure that an occupational therapy perspective is embraced within the clinical setting through both verbal and written communication. To participate in the occupational therapy professional support structure e.g. Preceptorship Development Programme (if applicable) To maintain accurate and appropriate clinical records and statistical information as required and in accordance with professional standards. To gain consent and build a collaborative relationship with Service Users that will promote engagement in the therapeutic process, adapting to barriers in communication which Service Users may present with e.g. emotional, psychological, physical To co-ordinate and communicate care packages or treatment plans for defined Service Users both verbally through ward rounds, team integration and telephone and non-verbally through CPA, reports and documentation. Also through carers and other agencies. Liaise in timely fashion with relevant agencies/others to facilitate Service User engagement 2. Knowledge, training and experience (covers base, intermediate or specialist knowledge (theoretical and/or practical), level of qualifications, training and experience) Accredited qualification in occupational therapy and HCPC registration. To have a clear understanding of the OT process and knowledge of theoretical frameworks, models and approaches and OT assessment tools Maintain up-to-date specific professional, legal and technical standards of practice in accordance with professional codes of conduct. Building a collaborative relationship with Service Users that will promote reflection, autonomy and engagement in the therapeutic process. To demonstrate use of occupational therapy core skills using a person centred approach, within a caseload appropriate to the team you are based in Assessing and observing functional potential, limitations, ability and needs, including the effects of physical and psychosocial environments. Enabling Service Users to explore, achieve and maintain balance in their activities of daily living in the areas of personal care, domestic, leisure and productive activities. Identifying and solving occupational performance problems. Using activities to promote health, wellbeing and function by analysing, selecting, synthesising, adapting, grading and applying activities for specific therapeutic purposes. Planning, organising and leading activity groups. Analysing and adapting environments to increase function and social participation. To understand and use appropriately risk assessments to establish therapeutic potential. Comprehensive understanding of the use of groupwork as a therapeutic medium. Demonstrate behaviour which is non-judgmental, respectful of other opinions and beliefs and values diversity 3. Analysis, Problem Solving and Judgmental Skills (covers judgements/decision making of straightforward, a range of situations, complex or highly complex of facts or situations) Make effective decisions regarding treatment options based on resources available. Be aware of the team clinical governance agenda and contribute to service development according to the priorities 4. Planning and Organisational Skills (covers planning and organising own tasks, straightforward tasks, complex or a broad range of complex activities or programmes) Delegate safely, be aware of own gaps in competencies seeking support when required To be involved in planning, providing, evaluating therapeutic group and activity programmes as appropriate to the clinical setting. To contribute to the day to day running of the team you are based in 5. Physical Skills (covers minimal demand for physical skills, standard driving/keyboard or advanced/highly developed physical skills such as hand-eye co-ordination, sensory skills, moving patients and surgical activities) Standard driving and keyboard skills Moving and handling skills 6. Patient/Client Care (covers non-clinical advice, personal care, clinical care, implements or develops care packages/clinical technical services which are specialist or highly specialist) Provide full and comprehensive clinical Occupational Therapy input to service users and carers as appropriate to the clinical setting based in. To be responsible and accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment for defined Service Users, both on an individual basis and within a group setting. 7. Policy and Service development Implementation (covers responsibility for development and implementation of policies and/or services i.e. implements in own work area, policy/service development across own area/directorate/organisation) To contribute to service developments within the team you are based To contribute to the continuing development and evaluation of the service and the occupational therapy aspect within the process. To maintain clear links with your professions structures and your professions lead within the Trust. Support the professions development and modernisation and the adherence to your professions standards and codes of practice. You will have an accredited qualification in occupational therapy and HCPC registration, which you take responsibility to maintain this by meeting RCOT and HCPC standards. To contribute to the day to day running of the team you are based in Delegate safely, be aware of own gaps in competencies seeking support when required You must take at all times comply with the Leeds and York Partnerships Foundation NHS Teaching Trust Health & Safety Policies, in particular by following agreed safe working procedures and reporting incidents using the Trusts risk incident reporting system You must take personal responsibility for your own development by ensuring that continuous professional development remains a priority. You will undertake all mandatory training required for the role and participate in supervision/appraisal You are required to act at all times in accordance with the Trust values Some rotations are community based so will involve you travelling between sites and to service user homes Some rotations will require you to work shifts across seven days Whilst we aim to take your preferences into account, you may be required to work in a setting you did not preference Depending on service demands and your own development needs you may also be required to move to a different rotation at any time, or to remain in your setting for longer than 9 months The rotation covers a large geographical area and you may be required to work in any of the settings included The settings included on the rotation are subject to change
