We are looking for an enthusiastic Mental Health Reablement Occupational Therapist to support an innovative pathway within the Reablement Service. This role is part of a transformation plan to make reablement available to more residents in Surrey.

Rewards and Benefits

  • 26 days' holiday (prorated for part time staff), rising to 28 days after 2 years' service and 30 days after 5 years' service
  • Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
  • An extensive Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support health and wellbeing
  • Up to 5 days of carer's leave per year
  • Paternity, adoption and dependents leave
  • A generous local government salary related pension
  • Lifestyle discounts including gym, travel, shopping and many more
  • 2 paid volunteering days plus 1 team volunteering day per year
  • Learning and development hub where you can access a wealth of resources

About the Team

The Reablement Service is part of the Adults Wellbeing and Health Partnerships directorate. We are an organisation who offer agile working opportunities for our staff.

We are a multi-disciplinary team who, provide short term support for up to 6 weeks, to people usually in their own homes to promote independence and choice for people by helping them work towards their reablement goals as set out in their support plan. Our aim is to help improve people's quality of life, maximise long term independence and enable people to remain or return to live in their own home within the community.

We are an Occupational Therapy-led service, our community workforce includes Occupational Therapists, Specialist Workers, Team Leaders, Integrated Reablement Workers and Reablement Assistants, who all work in a way that seeks to improve people's lives by working on their strengths and not their weaknesses and making use of the community and networks around them, as well as local authorities provided services

We work closely with some private providers across Surrey who are part of our Collaborative Reablement Service (CRS). CRS is an extension of our Reablement Teams - by having CRS partners we are able to have more capacity to support more Surrey residents

About the Role

The role will lead on assessments and skills-gain programmes, deliver training and act as a resource for the wider team bringing skilled advice, ideas, techniques and contributing to projects. You will work with the reablement teams across the county, embedding good working relationships and to help lessen the stigma for people with Mental Health problems coming to the Service and, in some cases, also supporting physical difficulties.

This role will be supporting four Mental Health Reablement workers to provide clinical supervision and day-to-day co-ordination of support. The role also includes working together with the Enabling Independence Team to triage referrals for short term support. In addition, you will also be working with other services like local Mental Health teams both in Social Care and Health

As this is a countywide post, your base will be one of the five reablement hub offices- Guildford and Waverley, East, Mid, Northwest, and Surrey Heath and Farnham reablement teams, depending on your location. Our Reablement Service operates a hybrid working model, with an expectation to work from the office at least 2 days per week to promote collaboration and good working relationship within teams and other stakeholders

This exciting post offers the chance to contribute to the development of the Reablement Service as it undergoes its transformation to being a therapy led service. It also offers access to regular supervision, monthly CPD sessions and opportunity to network with other OTs in the organisation, training and development opportunities

Shortlisting Criteria

To be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • At least 2 years' experience as an Occupational Therapist in Mental Health or related services as well as being HCPC registered
  • Enthusiasm for helping develop the service and embedding good practice.
  • Experience of working towards increased independence with people with Mental Health conditions and understand the benefits of a strengths-based approach, alongside good communication.

  • Report writing skills with the ability to deal with a high percentage of work using a laptop and IT systems
  • You have a valid UK driver's licence and access to a car with business insurance which you can use to visit people in their own homes.
