Mental Health Recovery Worker

Location: Weymouth, Portland and West Dorset

Salary: £23,682 per year (pro rata £12,433 for 21 hours)

Contract Type: Part Time, Permanent

To start as soon as possible

Essential CriteriaThe ideal Mental Health Recovery Worker will:

  • Have a good understanding of Mental Health issues and really enjoy supporting others to achieve independence and lead their own recovery
  • Have an awareness of the factors that can put additional stress on a person’s Mental Health including feelings of social isolation, financial worries and housing issues
  • Be caring, consistent, flexible and creative, work well under pressure, know how to connect with people at all levels and, like us, are keen to break down the stigma of Mental Health
  • Have a broad skills and knowledge base including knowledge of housing related support; housing law; debt; welfare benefits; welfare reform and universal credit
  • Experience in supporting people to access community resources, including Mental Health service / resources.
  • Have experience of working with clients to produce strength based support plans and positive risk management
  • Have experience of working with a diverse range of client groups
  • Have knowledge of safeguarding for adults, children and young people
  • Be able to priorities own time / workload
  • Be able to keep up to date and accurate case notes

Due to the nature of the role the Mental Health Recovery Worker you will need to hold a full driving license with access to a vehicle

The Role

Approximately 1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a Mental Health problem each year and worries about things like housing, relationships, money, jobs and benefits can make it harder for people to cope. We are recruiting a member of the team who can focus on and specialise in working with those who are struggling with their Mental Health, will develop links with Acute Inpatient Units, Community Mental Health Teams and local community resources. The service will provide medium term support for a maximum of six months to focus on improving people’s independence and long term health wellbeing .

As a Mental Health Recovery Worker, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing your own caseload, providing one to one support out in the community or in a client’s home
  • Supporting clients via drop-ins (local to your area of work)

The role will include (but is not limited to):

  • Providing practical support for example navigating an individual through a housing or benefits application
  • Encouraging individuals to gain access to resources that they may not have been aware of that support positive health and wellbeing for example; debts or addiction services or connecting to a social group or activity
  • Supporting people to find long term solutions that will promote recovery
  • Supporting clients to access suitable long-term accommodation and any support with resettlement following a stay in hospital
  • Partnership working with a range agencies and organisations, often advocating on a client’s behalf
  • Regular meetings at our local office in Dorchester

Our service is open to anyone aged 16+ and can involve working with clients with a range of complex issues.

Be able to work flexibly in the Weymouth, Portland and West Dorset be able to travel with in the county depending on the needs of clients.
