We have an exciting opportunity for a Modern Apprenticeship in Accounting who is at the beginning of their career to join our team. Our Grants Team manage a varied portfolio of grants for a wide range of prestigious public sector and commercial clients, based across Scotland.


This role is a fixed-term 2-year contract.

The Team

You will be joining a team of ten and will have the opportunity to work with all levels. The team have a wide range of experience and knowledge. All team members are more than happy to help and will always answer any questions you may have.

Although you are joining our team in Dundee, you will work closely with the Edinburgh team. While working here there will be opportunities to attend client site visits and gain first-hand experience of the Grants Audit process.

The Role

This is an entry-level position which will give the right candidate the opportunity to develop their Grants knowledge whilst studying for an AAT qualification, which is an industry-recognised qualification. This role will allow you to gain experience working on grant audits as well as give you a basic understanding of accountancy.

This is a varied role where no two days will be the same.

Main Responsibilities include:

Providing support to the Grants Team:

  • Assist with work on grant audits.
  • Support grant audit team on administration tasks – preparing files and collecting initial audit documents from clients.
  • Establish sample sizes, where appropriate, and select samples from data supplied from clients.
  • Liaise with clients to collect documentary evidence on the sample of costs for review
  • Conduct fieldwork onsite at client premises or remotely, as required.
  • Assist with queries on grant claims and refer on to the grant coordinator, keeping them up to date on progress.
  • Action all review points to ensure all are cleared.
  • Attend relevant training courses, as required.
  • Be educated to Higher grade (or equivalent) with A to C passes in English and Maths.

Requirements

The successful candidate will:

  • Be educated to National 5 (or equivalent) with passes in English & Maths desirable
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Demonstrable commitment to developing into an accountancy role
  • Excellent organisational skills with high attention to detail is essential
  • Have excellent communication skills – both written and oral
  • Flexibility and can-do approach essential
  • Be a proactive and analytical approach to problem-solving
  • Demonstrate a willingness to study and work towards the AAT qualification.
