What will I do as an Engineering Technician (Technical Support Mechanical) Apprentice?
Starting in September 2024, you will learn and develop engineering skills and knowledge through onsite work placements, whilst also studying for nationally recognised qualifications. You will learn a range of skills including assembly of products, machining and maintenance of equipment. You will study for a Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Manufacturing Engineering – Technical Support.
You will attend Gloucester College for two days per week for the first two years where you learn practical and theoretical engineering knowledge in a range of subjects. For the remainder of the week you will be onsite in Tewkesbury,
Training, assessments and observations will also be completed in the workplace. This can be supported by some remote delivery if required. On successful completion of your level 3 qualification, there is the opportunity to progress to a HNC in electrical or mechanical engineering if the business need exists
Who is this apprenticeship for?
Operation areas can be challenging, fast-paced and highly demanding, where deadlines must be met and work and products are produced to a high standard. This pathway will appeal to people who work well under pressure and are flexible enough to deal with the changing demands of production techniques.
What experience should you have?
You should be able to show us that you are a practical person and have worked on projects either at school or at home that demonstrate this. Relevant work experience completed through school or college would be beneficial, although is not essential.
Applicants must have:
- At least 5 GCSEs, including the minimum of a level 4 (C grade) in Math's, and level 4 (C grade) or above in four other subjects including Science and English
- Please ensure your CV is up to date with details of qualifications you are currently studying towards, including full titles and levels. You can include predicted grades if you have not completed your studies yet
- Relevant work experience done through school or college would be beneficial although is not essential
- A genuine interest and enthusiasm to undertake a practical, hands-on role in a manufacturing engineering environment
- Enthusiasm, motivation and a positive attitude, pride in a job well done, and the commitment to put in the time and effort during the apprenticeship in order to reap the benefits when the apprenticeship ends.

Application and recruitment process:
1. Application - Apply online with a covering letter and CV – the deadline for applications is Sunday 10th March 2024. Use your covering letter to tell us:
- Why you want to do an apprenticeship and why you want to work in engineering?
- What interests you have away from school/college or work that supports a mechanical aptitude and interest in the principles of engineering?
2. Assessment – if you are selected, you will complete an assessment where your skills in areas such as Math's and Mechanical aptitude will be assessed. This is an online assessment that you can complete at home, and you will be sent a link to the assessment. There is no preparation or revision required, and the assessment will take approximately 60 minutes.
3. Interview and assessment day – if you are shortlisted again following your online assessment, you will be invited to attend an onsite interview where you will get to meet the team and have a tour of our Industrial Group Facility.
