About Admiral Money and The Motor Finance Team

The Role

As a Motor Finance Underwriting lead, its essential you can fit into a fast-paced, innovative, and high-profile environment, and are required to hit the ground running to develop and implement strategies, guidelines, policies to ensure effective and consistent underwriting decisions. You will be heavily involved in recruiting team members to form a motivated, customer focused team. Candidates will be given responsibility to set direction and lead the way, whilst very much retaining a hands-on approach supporting the team’s workload.  

You will be responsible for co-ordinating the team to ensure we are meeting and exceeding customer expectations on decisioning timescales, enabling them to continue their car buying journey. It is key to foster a collaborative and supportive team environment, where team members are encouraged to develop and take up growth opportunities.  

We are looking for someone who is highly motivated, and has extensive knowledge in Motor Finance Underwriting, understanding the risk benefits of the secured nature of the product offering. You will be decisioning customers that have applied online or at the dealership, so decisioning efficiency is just as important as decision accuracy and quality of work. 

You will be expected to drive positive customer experiences by analysing KRI’s and engaging with internal stakeholders to evolve rule sets. You will be an integral part of our customers digital car buying experience, assessing affordability and sustainability of HP and PCP products for customers looking to fund their vehicles via the new Admiral Money proposition.

Key Responsibilities 

Strategy & Policy Creation  

  • Develop and implement strategies, guidelines, policies to ensure effective and consistent business approach.  
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the Underwriting team as well as internal departments to optimise processes.  

Team Coordination  

  • Be responsible for the day to day running of the team, including performance managing, workload allocation, driving efficiencies.  
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver timely and accurate solutions to customers.  
  • Deal with daily referrals from the team within department turnaround times, including decisioning queries/escalations and exception agreements. 
  • Nature a culture where staff are eager to grow and develop within their roles.  
  • Identify Training needs and organise relevant sessions, internally and externally. 

Analysing Data 

  • Analyse underwriting data and metrics to identify areas of improvement and implementation of strategies for enhanced performance.  
  • Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure there is a strong feedback loop into and from Credit Risk and Pricing and Collections teams. 

Sharing Best Practice 

  • As this role is based in a new and growing team, you will be responsible for ensuring that best practise and expertise is shared across the operational teams, and to wider business areas suitable.  

Candidate Requirements 

  • Previous underwriting experience in the Motor Finance industry, with a strong appetite for providing great customer outcomes.  
  • Strong analytical skillset.  
  • You have effective communication and influencing skills, combined with the ability to communicate clearly to all staff members from frontline staff to senior stakeholders.  
  • You are used to working to deadlines and meeting KPI’s.  
  • You have a positive work ethic and have a can-do attitude when supporting business in change.

Experience/good knowledge of: 

  • Open Banking  
  • CIFAS  
  • HP & PCP Products
