Multi-Site HSE Manager - EMEA

Near Warrington, UK.

We are working with a leading International Chemical Company, with a strong European manufacturing footprint, that is searching for their new Multi-Site EHS Manager (EMEA) to continue their excellent safety record across 10+ sites in the EMEA region.

Position Description:

The Multi-Site EHS Director will lead all HSE programmes across EU, UK, African, and Asian sites reporting directly to the VP of HSE.

Each site will have different challenges, so you need to have excellent knowledge of all areas of HSE including developing training plans, procedures, and pushing forth cultural changes and a culture of compliance at all levels.

This position covers sites of 5-80 people, so you need to be comfortable on the ground, making real impacts on production lines, but also able to coordinate with the corporate structure to ensure business aims are being met.

Major Responsibilities

  • Champion and drive positive EHS culture by advising, influencing, and supporting EHS Partners and plant operations.
  • Work closely with EHS team worldwide to identify and implement global EHS policy, standards/requirements, best practices, and systems.
  • Manage a team of EHS Partners and provide clear expectation and leadership for them.
  • Provide technical support to leadership on matters related to occupational health, safety, security, environmental compliance, process safety (HAZOP), and loss prevention.
  • Travels to and works with sites routinely to provide service at a practical level and to interact with local EHS staff and operations.
  • Ensures adherence to laws, regulations and employer policies governing occupational safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ensures required data is collected to satisfy environmental permit and reporting requirements (air, water, waste regulatory requirements).
  • Prepare reports for use by company personnel and regulatory agencies, including Compliance calendar.
  • Develop and manage initiatives to promote a proactive safety culture, including programs designed to increase employee involvement, education, and recognition by participation in safety committees, incident investigations, training, and compliance auditing.
  • Collect and interpret EHS data to identify trends and/or causal factors, such as system failure, human error, incomplete or faulty decision-making, or a weakness in existing policies or practices or regulations.
  • Manage department budget.
  • Investigate incidents and non-compliance events to determine contributing factors and recommend remedial action to prevent reoccurrence and ensure actions are completed to satisfactory level.
  • Assist in classifying incidents and non-compliance events.
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies on matters related to reporting and/or investigating compliance concerns including work related injury.
  • Develop and deliver regulatory required training related to health, safety, and environment.
  • Ensure EHS management systems conform to standards such as RC14001, ISO14001, ISO45001, etc.
  • Manage EHS projects at assigned sites.
  • Participation in company sponsored auditing
  • Ensure site level EHS plans, programs, and procedures are developed and maintained in collaboration with site operations.
  • Analyzes and interprets reports from consultants and makes recommendations for additional testing and fieldwork as required.
  • Conduct EHS reviews of capital projects and work with engineering & plant management on solutions to EHS issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, ideally Engineering or EHS related.
  • Postgraduate qualification in EHS (e.g. NEBOSH, IEMA, etc) preferred
  • 10+ years EHS leadership role
  • 10+ years in heavy industry, chemicals preferred
  • Must be field-oriented and proficient in offering practical advice/solutions.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to multi task and administer a broad range of duties
  • Excellent knowledge of federal, state, and local health, safety, environment and security regulations.
  • Ability to travel (up to 30%)
  • German or English is required, other languages are an advantage.
