About this client/child: Daniel (8), lives at home with his Mum, Dad, and older brother (11). Daniel is an active boy, who thrives on 1-1 interactions. He loves board games (Scrabble is his current favourite), playing football, building with Lego, going on bike rides, and building dens. He has an active imagination, and enjoys researching, and having conversations. Daniel has a diagnosis of ADHD, ODD and CD. Daniel can sometimes become dysregulated, and present with behaviours that may challenge. At these times, he will need support with his transitions, managing his strong emotions, and completing all aspects of his daily living tasks. Daniels older brother is quite independent, although he will need support and prompting to complete his homework, and to ensure he has prepared his school bag for the next day.
Overview of role: Days begin at 2.00pm at the family home. The SEN Nanny/Manny will have time to prepare the evening meal, and undertake some light domestic tasks related to the children. The family also require the SEN Nanny/Manny, to help with the family washing, (no ironing), they have a cleaner twice a week. Then, at 3.45pm it’s time to pick Daniel up from school, which is a 30min drive away. Once home, Daniel will need support to follow his evening routine. There may be times when Daniel is reluctant to follow the evening schedule, and the SEN Nanny/Manny, will need to be ready with positive strategies to support him through this. It is important that Daniel eats well at dinnertime. He is currently taking medication that has reduced his appetite, and eating a healthy and well-balanced meal is essential. Daniel attends Cubs on a Monday, and has Football practice on a Tuesday, which he enjoys, there may be times when he needs encouragement to finish his tasks to get there on time. A big part of this role is facilitating a positive relationship between Daniel and his brother, and whilst his brother is quite independent, he will still need to be included in play and activities, inside and outside the home. During the four weeks of full-time hours, the SEN Nanny/Manny will be proactive in finding and arranging fun activities for the boys to partake in, inside the home and in the community. Daniel’s parents will benefit hugely from support and advice from the SEN Nanny/Manny, and they would love to be shown some supportive strategies that they can implement with Daniel too.
Who this job would suit: This job will suit an experienced SEN professional, SEN Nanny/Manny who is confident to support a child with behaviours that may challenge. Someone with initiative, who is happy to implement tried and tested strategies and try out new ones too!
What’s great about this job: This is a wonderful opportunity to support the whole family and grow a trusting and long-lasting bond with Daniel, to continue his ongoing development. Additional paid time off between Christmas and New Year.
