Job description

The National Electrical Specialist will provide technical support and assistance to the Electrical Compliance of Testing & Inspection (T&I) and maintenance teams. This role will also depend on your ability to support the electrical teams and build and enhance customer relationships. You will ensure good working relationships are maintained and built upon.

The role is responsible for managing the Electrical T&I contract to ensure all services are completed to the highest standard and adhere to all regulatory standards. This role will also be responsible for offering technical guidance and direction for the customer as required.

A requirement to assist in the support of training and technical requirements will be required.

All work will need to be completed in an efficient and cost-effective manner, whilst complying with the laid-down Company Health and safety policy.

Key Accountabilities:

Strive to improve:

  • Ensure under performance measures are understood and action plans are in place to drive improvement and consistency.
  • Support the field technicians with on-site area meetings to harbour increased knowledge and best practice.
  • Regularly communicate with the customer on all FM activity involving electrical strategies and agendas.
  • Attend / hold meetings (in line with meeting schedule) with line manager to communicate and City communications.
  • Support the Head of Compliance on all technical, people and FM process issues.

Make it happen:

  • Complete specified reports and compliance documentation and take action on any issues raised. Monthly reporting will be high the agenda.
  • Audit FM documentation and action on any non-compliance issues.
  • Review at least 10% of all electrical certification from both company employees and sub contractors on a monthly basis.
  • Prioritise and drive remedial works from statutory PPM tasks and maintain records of current status of works.
  • Deal promptly with all Help Desk calls and ensure that the issues are resolved effectively, escalating where necessary to the appropriate management level.
  • Processing all requests using the mercury system accurately.

  • Ensure that the electrical testing programme, collation of all certifications and put in place a strong audit process.

  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process of technician vacancies and validation of certifications as required.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner at all times and develop a good working relationship with the Site and Maintenance Technicians and the customer’s employees.

Financial Responsibility:

This role is responsible for identifying and delivering business development opportunities within the budget to fund additional services to the customer. Managing any capital plans and projects jointly with the Customer and designated Manager, ensuring they are completed to specification and within budget to optimise value and service levels.

People Responsibility:

Responsible for the line management of the Electrical Qualifying Supervisors.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • NVQ Level 3/City and guilds 236 Part 1 + 2 or equivalent in electrical installation/Maintenance.
  • City and Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing
  • City and Guilds 2381 18th Edition.
  • A working knowledge of the maintenance service within the FM industry is essential, with previous working knowledge of a multi-client contracted environment is desirable; and PPM and compliance background.
  • Previous experience of effectively leading and managing a team is essential.
  • Previous experience of developing client relationships at a senior level would be advantageous.
  • Strong PC literacy, with experience in extracting, collating and presenting performance data along with a good understanding of the CAFM systems. 
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent planning, organising, prioritisation and project management skills.
  • Strong results focus, takes accountability for own performance and that of the team.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making
  • Highly flexible and self-starting. The role will have many challenges and a flexible approach will be needed.
