Please note - This post is offered on a 12 Month Secondment, to be further extended under review at the end of the period. Permanent appointments would be considered.
We are seeking Obstetricians for the role of National Maternity Improvement Advisor (NMIA) to work in partnership with Trust’s to support development needs to improve governance, staff engagement, increased responsiveness to women’s voices, leadership, safety and quality improvement in order to affect sustained change in the five Care Quality Commission domains:
As an NMIA you will be allocated to Trusts requiring additional support to improve maternity service CQC ratings to good and outstanding who have consistently remained at Requires improvement, or to those services requiring further support to meet any key national recommendations for maternity services to deliver the outcomes required and improvements in the quality, safety and sustainability of services for women and their families. This is an an advisory, supportive and facilitative role, working closely with the leadership of both the maternity service and the trust, but without cutting across the jurisdiction or responsibilities of their Boards.
• Ensure that every maternity service being supported has a well formulated, appropriate, and meaningful maternity safety and quality improvement plan that has been developed by robust engagement with all of the maternity MDT workforce and service users, is understood by all stakeholders and is delivered utilising all available resources efficiently and effectively.
• Ensure delivery of all National Maternity agendas, initiatives, and recommendations.
• Support a positive safety culture within the organisations through inclusive leadership and role modelling adaptive leadership.
• Support and advise on the development of a robust safety and quality improvement plan in maternity services that has clearly defined measurable outcomes, demonstrates impact for women, families and the maternity MDT workforce and moves through improvement, to sustainable change and to business as usual.
• Ensure appropriate oversight at all levels through the organisation and that systems and processes are in place to enable the implementation of the plans supported by a positive organisational culture.
• Support and advise on the key risks and issues associated with ensuring appropriate actions are taken to mitigate or respond to those risks
• Support and advise on monitoring and establishing accountability on the overall progress of the plan to ensure completion within agreed timescales.

• Advise and guide to ensure efficiency and effectiveness in delivery of the plan and overarching improvements and activity, utilising proven quality improvement methods and tools.
• Ensure that there is no destabilisation of business as usual and identify areas of good practice that can be replicated and also be shared across the organisation and systems both regionally and nationally.
• Support and actively promote relationships with key stakeholders especially women and families and the wider community served by the maternity services.
