Who we are

We are RNID. Together we’ll make life more inclusive for deaf people and those with hearing loss or tinnitus.

Our charity has been through a complete transformation, while building on the best of our past. We’ve returned to our former, much-loved name, become wholly remote working, and established a new strategy, focused on reaching the 12 million people in the UK who are deaf, have hearing loss or tinnitus.

We are creating a radically different culture which is externally focused, curious, evidence-based, deliberate, agile, and future orientated. Our values are at the heart of what we do.

We strive to be and continue to be connected to our communities, insightful and confident in what we do and who we are, curious in everything we do and passionate about our purpose.

This role is important to us and this is where you come in…

You will be joining us at an exciting time as we set up our new RNID Near You community services in NHS Lothian and NHS Fife areas. As a Co-ordinator, you will focus and lead on developing and delivering our new community service across your locality through drop-ins offering:

  • practical hearing aid support
  • information on hearing loss and tinnitus
  • hearing checks

You will be responsible for co-ordinating up to 20 drop-in services and be able to recruit, train and manage a team of up to 30 volunteers to deliver the service across your area. You will have responsibility for the set up and running of these clinics, and have good local knowledge of your area in order to seek new opportunities for delivery of our RNID Near you services.

We are looking to appoint a motivated person with a keen interest in supporting people with their hearing loss. While you will be home based, there will be regular travel to venues where we will provide drop-in clinics in community settings.

You want to make a difference in people’s lives and love to interact with various audiences, including volunteers, health & care professionals and service users. You have experience managing events, your own workload and are able to work evenings/ weekends if required. You are able to physically assist clients with hearing aids sensitively, giving clear guidance and taking into account individual wishes and health needs.

You are ready to work for a home-working organisation and have good IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Excel, Word.

What we can offer you

  • Digital First, fully remote working with 2 in person all-staff conferences a year
  • Fully remote working with no core hours
  • £26 remote working allowance every month
  • 28 days annual leave plus all bank holidays
  • Plus 2 wellbeing days for extra flexibility
  • Sickness benefit entitlement from day 1
  • Pension scheme with 4% employer contribution
  • Life Assurance – 2 x salary
  • Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing app that provides counselling sessions
  • Additional benefits for maternity, paternity and adoption
  • Access to an event ticketing platform

Our commitment to diversity

We are committed to supporting our staff including making reasonable adjustments. If you require support to apply for or fulfil the requirements of this role, please inform us so we can discuss the options with you.

Disability Confident

Disability Confident is a government scheme designed to encourage employers to recruit and retain disabled people and those with health conditions. It has replaced the previous Two Ticks Positive About Disabled People scheme that you may have heard of.

RNID is proud to be a member of Disability Confident and as a Disability Confident Leader we recognise the value disabled people bring to RNID. We offer interviews to any candidate that tells us they have a disability and meets the minimum criteria for the role.
