We have a mixed discipline team of .NET developers, testers, designers and BI developers providing cloud-based software solutions for students and staff in the areas of web, mobile, integration and data. Highly dynamic, the team uses Scrum with Agile Testing combined with leading cloud-based tooling to bring quality and value to a wide spectrum of stakeholders.

We are seeking an experienced Developer with proven track record in Microsoft .NET and Azure technologies. The University operates a combination of on-prem and cloud-based commercial line of business systems and in-house developed web and mobile applications, all sharing a common integration platform. Given the broad spectrum of solutions developed and supported, we are looking for candidates who are centred around .NET and can turn their hand to a variety of solution types.

Experienced in agile development environments, you will become an integral part of a scrum team focussed on delivering quality solutions to the University at pace, working in tandem with Architects, Developers, Testers and Operations in a highly collaborative build-test-ship partnership.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• C# w/ .NET 6 and onwards for general applications development
• Azure development, PaaS services such as Web Apps, Web Jobs, Functions, Service Bus, and Azure SQL
• Development and integration of web APIs for web, mobile or App2App integration
• Use of JSON, XML and CSV
• Working with source control such as Azure DevOps, SVN and Git
• Experience in Agile/Scrum development methodologies
• Experience of TDD or BDD
• Proven experience in the application of automated systems to the support of specific business functions or processes
• Knowledge of specific standards such as departmental programming and accessibility standards, organisational network performance standards, and service desk procedures
• Experience of the selection and application of information gathering methods, tools and techniques
• Educated to bachelor degree level or holds a relevant professional qualification

Desirable (candidates may have a subset of the following based on experience/background):

• PaaS development with other public clouds such as AWS and GCP
• SQL Server development for applications
• ASP.NET MVC with Razor
• Mobile application development, ideally with .NET MAUI although native frameworks also considered
• Front end JavaScript frameworks such as React and jQuery
• An understanding and appreciation of SOA and microservices
• Any experience of effective release management processes, ideally in Azure DevOps.
• Application of Infrastructure as Code (such as Terraform, Bicep)

The appointed candidate will normally be employed through our subsidiary company BCU Support Services Limited, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Birmingham City University.
