Summary

Come and join us on a National Trust apprenticeship where we will support and develop you to play an integral part in our work to tackle climate change, protect historic sites and help people and nature thrive. You do not need experience for this role, just loads of enthusiasm and a desire to learn.


As an IT Apprentice, you will be working with a specific team, learning from and assisting in a number of different areas, as well as having the opportunity for placements with other IT teams to gain relevant experience aligned to your Apprenticeship’s knowledge, skills and behaviours. You will be helping to find innovative solutions to challenges and supporting our colleagues to deliver their work.

What it's like to work here

IT is a busy, dynamic department delivering and supporting the technology required to enable the Trust to deliver on its strategic objectives. Our vision is to equip and support the Trust with the technology we all need to do our jobs confidently. Working collaboratively with all areas of the Trust, we focus on delivering the Trust’s priority information services at pace, focusing on the needs of our people and supporters. We are continuously improving and securing Trust information services and take great pride in what we do. 

Your training will be delivered via a combination of mandatory weeklong blocks and online learning, with all expenses and travel paid. There may also be opportunities to travel to other National Trust locations with some overnight stays to expand your learning and experience.

You will be based in our head office, Heelis. 

IT is a central support service, and we have a range of project and BAU activities which can include supporting the delivery of new technology and change being implemented into the Trust, as well as keeping existing technology functional, safe, and secure. 

What you'll be doing

Working alongside your mentor on tasks specific to your apprenticeship, you will develop the skills & knowledge relevant to this apprenticeship standard.  (Network engineer / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education)


You will attend, and prepare for, regular review meetings with your training provider, and be accountable for your own progression. The programme is delivered through a blended framework of Residential and Online Classroom learning.

Who we're looking for

In addition to the qualities listed in the role profile, we would love to hear from you if you meet the following eligibility criteria by the start date of the role:


•A minimum of 5 GCSEs including maths and English at C/4 or above

•Level 3 Qualification or BTEC in a relatable subject (STEM/Networking/Computing Subjects preferable)

•Aged 16 or over and have completed year 11

•Have the right to work in the UK and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for three consecutive years before starting the apprenticeship 

•Not in full time education

•Able to travel to work location.


If you have a qualification in the same or a related subject to this apprenticeship or have substantial relevant work experience this may exclude you from Government funding – this will be verified if your application progresses.


Can lead to an IT entry level role upon completion and/ or potentially further study.
