Job description

We currently have 2 fantastic opportunities for Network Engineers to join our Wastewater network in the Thames Valley area. You can be either based at Swindon, Reading, or Oxford. This role will be field-based, and you will be expected to work and travel within the Thames Valley Waste Water area, Including home counties when required.
As a Network Engineer, your role will be supporting our customers and protecting the environment. You will be overseeing our contractors and ensuring they are working safely and efficiently; you will be working alongside them to resolve defects in our sewer network.
Base Location: Thames Valley, Reading, Oxford, and Swindon.
Working Pattern or hours: 38 hours per week, plus the inclusion onto a standby rota for which you will receive additional payment.
What you’ll be doing as a Network Engineer
  • The day-to-day operation of the waste network includes resolution of sewer collapses, blockages, flooding to customers’ homes, and pollution to land/watercourses.
  • Taking personal ownership of customer issues i.e. responding to queries, and complaints, and resolving issues.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and standards during repairs.
  • Acting as local network expert providing information for risk assessments and sharing information regarding network risks and other health and safety issues.
  • Attending meetings with customers, councils, and the Environment Agency to discuss how best our business can support them.
  • Providing critical on-site information to support the wider Operations team.
  • Supervising contractors to ensure that they are working safely and adhering to company policies & procedures.
  • Performing a rolling 6-week shift pattern, with participation in an out-of-hour standby rota once every six weeks.

What you should bring to the role
  • Be a self-motivated individual who can immerse themselves into the team around them, you need to be very disciplined have the desire to learn from those around you and have a can-do attitude. This role can be demanding at times but very rewarding too.
  • Take Ownership of responding quickly to faults, being curious to fully understand the problem, and identifying the best solution to resolve it the first time.
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, to interact with the team.
  • Teamwork – We are one team, and our end goals are the same.
  • Be proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around the site and communicate effectively.
  • You must be prepared to be trained in health and safety procedures.
  • Have knowledge and awareness of health and safety standards.
  • Due to the nature of the role a full UK driving licence is essential.
