About the Role

You will support the UK-wide Network Infrastructure, services and hardware for Refresco UK, making continuous improvements to network performance, as and when required and ensuring best practice across our IT infrastructure estate, focusing on IT security, stability, availability and standardisation. You’ll report directly to the Infrastructure Manager and will be part of a UK Infrastructure Team of four people. Based mainly in Bridgwater, you will also be required to visit our other UK sites as and when required.

 

As Senior Network Technician, here are your key areas of focus:

  • Define, develop, propose and plan any new server & Network Infrastructure to accommodate any change in business requirements.
  • Develop, plan, installation and maintenance of the existing server & Network Infrastructure to ensure smooth running of our business systems.
  • Proactively use network monitoring tools to identify issues and prevent P1 incidents where possible
  • Maintaining remote (VPN) and mobile access for off-site personnel so that these people have remote, un-interrupted access to Business systems.
  • Providing 24-hour second line technical support for all IT tasks as part of the on-call team.
  • Ensure infrastructure documentation is kept up-to-date and knowledge articles created and shared with the Service Desk to ensure incidents are resolved as soon as possible
  • Advise and provide training to other members of the IT Department in infrastructure technologies and delegate work accordingly.
  • Shared responsibility for planning LAN and WAN maintenance so enabling 100% availability of the business network.
  • To fulfil any reasonable business request, in order to keep continuity of support and service, ensuring the smooth operation of the IT Department.
  • Define, design, plan and implement the company infrastructure in conjunction with our suppliers and train other members of the Team in all aspects.
  • Advise and engage effectively with the business and our suppliers on all IT matters, managing and monitoring our suppliers through the various IT projects.
  • Shared responsibility for the design, maintenance and integrity of the server & network environment for Refresco UK
  • Day to day infrastructure support via tickets submitted to the 4Me Service Desk Tool
  • To adequately provide DR capabilities and recovery plans
  • Champion secure practices and ensure data security. 

 

About You

In our multi-site environment, we use a lot of different network technologies to keep everything running smoothly. To be successful, it is essential that you have the following:

  • Proven experience in supporting LAN/WAN technologies - Layer 2/3 switching/VLAN’s/ACL’s
  • In-depth knowledge of supporting Cisco switches and Cisco wireless AP’s/wireless controllers
  • Knowledge of setting up/troubleshooting Radius/Wireless issues
  • In-depth knowledge/experience of making major network changes in controlled environment via IT CAB process (Change Approval Board)
  • TCP-IP/DNS/DHCP/Network Routing including BGP
  • Experience working in a multi-site environment using MPLS and/or SD-WAN technologies
  • Working knowledge of PRTG monitoring tool
  • Working knowledge of Visio - documentation skills are essential to keep diagrams/network changes up to date
  • Network patching skills (Cat5e/Fibre)
  • A full driving licence will be required as travel to other sites is part of the role

 

Ideally, you will also have:

  • Cisco CCNA or above accreditation
  • In-depth knowledge of Aerohive wireless AP’s/ExtremeCloudIQ
  • Fortigate or general firewall knowledge (creating/amending firewall rules/troubleshooting)
  • Knowledge of Nortel/Avaya switches
  • Knowledge of 4Me or equivalent service desk tool
  • Knowledge of configuring network elements on a VMWare environment
  • Knowledge of Windows environments/Active Directory
  • Working knowledge of Mitel/Shoretel phone systems

 

You will need to be logical, adaptable and reliable, with excellent attention to detail. You’ll be comfortable communicating effectively at all levels of our UK business, taking the initiative on some jobs whilst working productively with your team on others.

The salary for this role is dependent on experience. Working hours are Monday to Friday – 38 hours per week, and we have free, onsite parking.
