Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Shape the Nuclear Safety case strategy.
  • Work closely with project partners to ensure a safety-informed design.
  • Engage with stakeholders to facilitate 'Right First Time' delivery.
  • Undertake safety assessments and analysis.
  • Produce safety reports and other technical documents.
  • Provide technical leadership for:
    • Hazard/Fault Identification Studies (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, FMEA, etc).
    • Qualitative and Quantitative Hazard Analysis Assessments.
    • Radiological Hazard Assessments.
    • Safety Case Report production (e.g., PSR, PCSR, etc).
    • ALARP Assessments.
    • Support to Engineering Substantiation activities.
    • Liaison with regulatory organisations (e.g., ONR, DNSR).
    • Development and review of Safety Management Arrangements.
    • Managing/Leading Safety Case activities and teams.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven track record in safety within the defence or nuclear domain, or other regulated industries.
  • Honours Degree in physics, mechanical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status (or working towards it).
  • Strong technical and engineering judgment.
  • Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Leadership experience and the ability to mentor junior staff.
  • Proficient in using engineering software and familiar with ISO 19650-1 & ISO 19650-2.
