An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced Occupational Health Nurse Advisors to join our expanding Occupational health Service.

Main duties of the job

The role requires the applicant to work as an experienced Occupational Health Nurse and to contribute to the leadership, education and management of the junior members of the nursing and administrative team.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate the use of evidence-based practice and be proactive in managing change. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, together with a readiness to innovate and develop nursing within a team approach.

The post holders will ideally hold an Occupational Health qualification or significant experience in this area, as the successful applicant will be a key team member within the service with a diverse clinical caseload of providing attendance management advice and health clearance on employment. Overseeing the health surveillance programme and supporting both administrative and junior team members in the day to day running of the service.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties. Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around Apply people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales. We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:

Four main hospitals: Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Seven community hospitals: Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;

48 general practices (Six of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;

Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential criteria

RN Level 1

Current NMC registration

Evidence of professional development to postgraduate diploma level or equivalent experience

Desirable criteria

Occupational health qualification, degree level (or willing to work towards)

Teaching and assessing module

Counselling skills/qualification

Health and Safety qualification

Experience

Essential criteria

Occupational health experience

Relevant Band 5 experience

Experience in a range of settings providing general nursing care and that which requires an autonomous practitioner

Desirable criteria

Experience of case management for staff absent due to sickness absence

Experience of developing and maintaining health surveillance programmes

Experience of undertaking workplace medicals

Experience of assessing individual’s fitness for role

Language skills
