Job Title:Occupational Hygienist
Location: Plymouth

Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum (depending on experience & qualifications)

Role Overview

To further strengthen our strategy, we seek to appoint an Occupational Hygienist at one of our client's sites in Plymouth. As the chosen candidate, you will play a pivotal role in offering expert guidance to control workplace health hazards, conducting occupational hygiene surveys and assessments. Reporting directly to the Occupational Health and Hygiene Operations Manager, you will spearhead the development and implementation of systems to integrate occupational hygiene seamlessly into our service delivery. Additionally, you will actively contribute to the enhancement of an integrated Occupational Health service, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to workplace health management.

This is a full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week, Monday - Friday, between 08:00 am and 18:00 pm. Support for relocation costs is available and can be discussed further.

Responsibilities

  • Overseeing and executing the occupational hygiene/workplace health risk management program.
  • Providing mentorship and leadership to the occupational hygiene technician team.
  • Collating data, conducting statistical analysis, preparing reports, and regularly updating occupational hygiene performance reports for clients and the Occupational Health & Hygiene Manager.
  • Conducting occupational hygiene monitoring and surveys for various chemical, physical, and biological agents.
  • Participating in specific occupational hygiene-related investigations and studies.
  • Ensuring efficient resource utilisation to minimise costs.
  • Collaborating with stakeholders, including employers and employees, in workplace health risk management.
  • Conducting routine workplace inspections to assess occupational hygiene aspects and reinforce health and safety themes.
  • Assisting in the development and delivery of educational materials on occupational hygiene.
  • Supporting COSHH assessments and Babcock COSHH management functions as required.

Requirements

  • Minimum Licentiate of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene (LFOH), holding the BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene (CertOH).
  • Extensive experience in the occupational hygiene field, covering a wide range of topics.
  • Desirable: Experience in developing workplace health risk management programs (training provided if necessary).
  • Desirable: Experience working alongside clinical occupational health staff.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Analytical mindset with keen attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in high-pressure environments.
  • Effective negotiation skills.
  • Proficiency in operational decision-making.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficient in technical and IT skills relevant to the role.

Education & Qualifications

  • Diploma/Bachelor's degree.
  • Relevant certifications from the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS).
  • Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene (CertOH).
  • Licentiate of the Faculty of Occupational Hygiene.
