An exciting, substantive opportunity has arisen for a full-time Band 6 Occupational Therapist at the Specialist Older Adults' Mental Health Service, Brighton General Hospital.
We are looking for a dynamic Occupational Therapist to join our supportive multidisciplinary team, where you will hold a Lead Practitioner responsibility. You will provide the Occupational Therapy contribution to the team, including providing Occupational Therapy assessments and providing specialist advice.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will hold a caseload of clients, whilst also carrying out initial assessments of the needs of clients newly-referred to the service. We are looking to appoint somebody who is highly motivated, enthusiastic, creative, flexible and resourceful, preferably with previous experience of working in the community and in various settings within mental health.
We are looking for someone with a passion for working with older adults and for developing good working relationships with clients, carers and family. You will work closely with the third sector, so forging close relationships with these services will be important.
The Specialist Older Adults' Mental Health Service is integrated between health and social care needs. There will be a requirement to complete social care assessments and mental capacity assessments as needed, and bespoke training will be offered for these aspects of the role.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
You will promote and develop the role of Occupational Therapy within the clinical area and provide input into the SOAMHS Occupational Therapy development plan using service user and carer feedback to improve and develop the service. You will have the opportunity to expand your skills in leadership and supervision providing guidance and support to Occupational Therapy students and junior members of staff.
You should be confident in using a range of standardised Occupational Therapy assessments and be forward thinking in applying current evidence to practice. You would be expected to demonstrate good leadership qualities, and have a high level of clinical knowledge and self-awareness. You will also be expected to be knowledgeable about the Key Performance Indicators, and ensuring that you achieve these and complete them for each of the cases you hold. This will be a challenging and very busy role but one which will be very rewarding.
