Job description

Full-time (Part-time considered)
We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and strongly motivated Occupational Therapist to join our therapy team in the specialist education setting. You must be able to work holistically to plan and deliver a therapy programme for young people. You must be registered with the HCPC and have experience in Sensory Integration Therapy. Clinical supervision will be provided as part of the role.
New Forest School is an independent specialist provider of education on the edge of the New Forest, Hampshire for children aged from 8-16 who have a range of severe or complex needs arising from life trauma, Autistic Spectrum Conditions (ASC), attachment disorder or a phobia of education. We are part of New Forest Care, a specialist care provider for young people and adults. The school is registered with the DfE to provide up to 80 places for children from a wide range of neighbouring local authorities.

Core responsibilities of the post
To provide Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention for children identified as needing OT support/intervention.
To develop care packages/interventions strategies for students referred to the OT services.
To contribute, along with other education/health professionals to the child's Individual Education Plan.
To maintain sensitivity at all times to the emotional needs of clients/carers when imparting complex/distressing information.
To demonstrate empathy with families, carers and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist.
To adapt practice to meet individual patient/client circumstances and highlight the need to vary or differentiate practice to the occupational therapy team so that there is effective sharing of learning from practice.
To have due regard for your own personal safety and that of children/carers.
Desirable Education and Qualifications
Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy, HCPC Registration, Interest relevant to working with families and children including special needs eg autistic spectrum disorders, learning difficulties.
Desirable Skills
Paediatric experience including child and family.
Skills in assessment of motor coordination and sensory processing concerns.
Ability to present clearly in person; and on paper.
Good organisational skills.
Good interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a skill mix team.
Negotiating and problem solving skills.
Plan and deliver intervention and advice for children in the school setting.
Excellent interpersonal skills including Listening and empathy.
IT/computer skills.
