Job description


We have exciting opportunities for Newly Qualified and established Band 5 Occupational Therapists seeking to develop knowledge, skills and experience within our new LD Low Secure (Aspen Wood) environment.
You will work collaboratively with service users, carers, MDT and wider agencies to promote and advocate an occupational perspective in relation to a person’s care, utilising evidence-based assessment and treatment models (MOHO and VdT MoCA) underpinned by the implementation of the Occupational Therapy process.
Access to the newly established AHP preceptorship programme, as well as further training/qualifications, Band 5 Peer Support Scheme, clinical supervision and CPD opportunities are available to help develop your career aspirations and the quality of the service.
To function as an Occupational Therapist to a defined group of service users under the supervision of senior staff working always to the Occupational Therapy Code of Conduct.
To consolidate his/her knowledge and skills.
To undertake a full range of treatment techniques as a member of a multidisciplinary team in different settings.

CLINICAL:
To undertake the assessment and treatment of service users guided by an occupational therapy frame of reference.
To manage a case load as required by the needs of the service.
To use treatment interventions which are up to date and use evidence based practice where possible.
To anticipate in clinical and professional meetings as required e.g. MDT meetings, Basic Grade training and staff meetings.
Undertake additional duties as requested by the Senior Occupational Therapist or Manager.
COMMUNICATION:
To work as a member of the MDT and communicate effectively all relevant information either verbally, written or electronically.
Liaise with outside agencies and refer on as appropriate.
DOCUMENTATION:
To Produce and maintain high quality, accurate and timely reports of assessments, treatment and evaluations.
PROFESSIONAL ETHICS:
To comply with the COT Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and national and local policies and procedures.
To adhere to the Trust Policy on Confidentiality.
Participating in maintaining standards in Occupational Therapy and in Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.
Ensure that work is conducted in line with the Trusts Equality and Diversity Policy, reporting on incidents and complaints as required.
Always behave in a manner that upholds the professional stature of Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust.
LEADERSHIP, SUPERVISION & APPRAISAL:
Assist in the education of Occupational Therapy students and other students on placement in the trust under the supervision of a practice placement educator.
SERVICE DEVELOPMENT & DELIVERY:
To contribute to team learning.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT:
Take responsibility for own development through the Trusts PACE, keeping up to date with developments in Occupational Therapy and Mental Health and taking part in mandatory training as required.
SERVICE GOVERNANCE, QUALITY, STANDARDS:
To adhere to professional standards both MCT & COT.
RESEARCH AND PRACTICE DEVELOPMENT:
To undertake research and/or audit projects relevant to OT and/or service area, disseminating findings at local level.
To broaden research and development skills through participation in local audit and research projects.
HEALTH & SAFETY:
To contribute to the safety and security needs of service users, their carers, Trust colleagues and any visitors to Trust premises, being mindful of appropriate standards and relevant policies and procedures e.g. infection control, risk assessment and management.
