Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Occupational Therapy Technician. Under the supervision of an occupational therapist, the post holder will be expected to contribute to the Occupational Therapy assessment process and provide Occupational Therapy intervention programmes to homeless individuals that present with co-existing substance use and mental health needs, who are due to receive housing support from the Newport Housing First Initiative. They will work flexibly to meet the needs of homeless individuals across a variety of settings.
The post holder, based within the Newport Community Mental Health Team at Gold Tops, will join the Occupational Therapy service in ABUHB on a fixed term or secondment basis up until the 31st March 2025.
The team is commissioned to support individuals experiencing homelessness who have complex needs affecting their psychological , physical and/or social functioning.The nature of this client group necessitates comprehensive and robust packages of care that address all aspects of their psychosocial needs to promote progressive and positive change.
The team works in close partnership with a number of agencies/departments including: Newport Community Mental Health Team, Gwent Area Planning Board (APB), Gwent Drug and Alcohol Service (GDAS) Aneurin Bevan Specialist Drug and Alcohol Service (ABSDAS) Pobl Group, Regional Local Authority Homelessness Managers, Supporting People, Regional Collaborative Committee and Public Health Wales.
The service is underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the post holder will be supported to use appropriate MOHO assessment tools. The occupation-focused 'Recovery through Activity' programme is also established across the service.
The post holder will be required to work collaboratively across wide-ranging services and agencies to support a programme of recovery and social inclusion.
The successful applicant will have excellent communications skills, will think creatively and flexibly, and will be able to demonstrate empathy, compassion, and the values of person-centred care.
The ABUHB Occupational Therapy service is dedicated to delivering a high-quality service and therefore requires that all OT Technicians have or are committed to engage in completion of a Level 4 Therapy Assistant Practitioner apprenticeship which offers excellent opportunity for development.
This post is fixed term or a secondment until the 31st March 2025 due to funding . If you are interested in applying for a secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
