Job description

Oceanographic Magazine is looking for a talented journalist with a passion for digital media.
Reporting to the Editor, the right candidate will be ready to play a pivotal role in actioning the editorial component of Oceanographic’s ambitious new digital growth plan, while also contributing to its internationally acclaimed print magazine.
Harnessing a deep journalistic skillset and a curious, investigative mindset, the candidate will shape Oceanographic’s news offering – both written and video – across all digital channels, including those already adopted, and new platforms.
The right candidate will be highly motivated, an excellent communicator, and possess an accredited journalism qualification. As well as being a superb writer and editor, they should also be comfortable presenting short pieces to camera.
An understanding of the critical role the ocean plays in planetary health is essential. The candidate will be ready to deepen this understanding where required, ensuring they have the knowledge base to chase and produce the right stories, and to provide a best-in-class service to Oceanographic’s readership.
The role comes with private healthcare and access to an EV car scheme (currently being implemented). The role is based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
Salary: DoE

  • Accredited journalism qualification
  • News & feature writing
  • Editing, including fact-checking & proofreading
  • Interviewing skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communicator
  • A deep understanding of the role social media plays in the dissemination of news

  • Knowledge of InDesign 
  • Basic video production & editing
  • Understanding of SEO
  • Google Analytics
  • Experience of podcast creation
  • A passion for the ocean and/or the broader natural world
