Job description

RWE Renewables UK Management Ltd., Swindon

To start in Jul/Aug/Sept 2024, full time, fixed term

Functional area:Operations & Maintenance

Join us at RWE Offshore Wind for a year in industry placement and gain invaluable insight into this truly unique and innovative sector.  We’re one of the largest developers of offshore wind globally and we’re on a journey of significant growth driven by our Growing Green investment strategy and commitment to net zero.  With 10 operational offshore wind farms across the UK, and multiple development projects in the pipeline, there has never been a more exciting time to join us.

   We can offer you:

  • A chance to work alongside world leading experts as a core member of the team
  • Real, hands-on experience, assisting us to solve complex problems – we will value your innovative and fresh thinking
  • A chance to be embedded in projects from day one, enabling you to apply your knowledge and rapidly acquire new, marketable skills
  • An attractive salary (circa £22k pa) and an extensive range of benefits
  • Support, training and mentoring to get the most from your time with us – we’ll work with you to understand your career interests and ambitions

Your opportunity

At the heart of our UK operations effort, our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Implementation teams combine engineering knowledge with commercial and analytical skills to keep our wind farms effectively maintained and operating at maximum efficiency, powering hundreds of thousands of homes and businesses across the UK, using a variety of modelling tools and scenario planning techniques to provide expert advice to the business on how to optimise output and profitability.

This is a rare opportunity to apply your current academic knowledge in a new and highly valuable way; drawing on the expertise and support of colleagues you’ll rapidly expand your skill set and will:

  • Learn how to use a variety of in-house Commercial Modelling tools and concepts and understand how they can be used to support effective commercial choices in our sector
  • Take the lead on your own development project, enhancing one of our tools or creating a new model
  • Assist the team across a variety of different offshore energy generation projects, undertaking modelling work and contributing to team and stakeholder meetings

We’ll also provide you with plenty of opportunity to visit our operational sites, giving you a first-hand view of the impact of the team’s work and a useful insight in the day to day of O&M in offshore wind.

About you

  • It’s likely you’ll be an undergraduate studying for an engineering degree or another highly numerate discipline –  any study related to renewable energy would be a real bonus
  • You have an option to undertake a full year in industry placement in your penultimate year, or perhaps you’re coming to the end of your current programme and can commit to a 10-12 month placement before pursuing a higher level degree. We’re looking for people on track to gain a 2.1 or higher
  • Highly analytical and enjoy getting into the detail, you can also think creatively
  • You’re confident in your communication skills – both written and verbal
  • You’d rate your MS Excel skills as at least intermediate, and you’re confident you could expand them quickly
  • Ideally you will already have some python skills, whether self-taught or as part of your degree

Please submit your CV along with a covering letter.  As a minimum, your covering letter should tell us why you’re a great fit for this opportunity, and how it aligns with your studies and career ambitions.
