The purpose of the role is to deliver sustainable profitable growth for Atlas Copco Rental UK Offshore business. Reporting to the UK Sales & Business Development Manager, the role of the rental Sales Engineer, will use product technical knowledge along with sales skills to provide advice and support on a range of ACR Rental products, for which a certain level of expertise is required. They will assist colleagues with bids and tenders for new clients from a technical perspective. The role will require individual meetings with clients and potential clients to discuss/review the rental business in a technical and commercial aspect for the company.


Rental Sales Engineer
Job Duties:

  • Identify current and future customer service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual customers and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.
  • Provide product, service, or equipment technical and engineering information by answering questions and requests.
  • Establish new accounts and services accounts by identifying potential customers; and planning and organizing sales call schedule.
  • Prepare cost estimates by studying P&ID, Project plans, and related customer documents; consulting with other professionals and technical personnel within ACR organisation.
  • Determine improvements by analysing cost-benefit ratios of equipment, supplies, or service applications in the customer environment; engineering or proposing changes in equipment, processes, or use of materials or services.
  • Gain customer acceptance by explaining or demonstrating cost reductions and operations improvements.
  • Submit orders by conferring with technical support staff; costing engineering changes.
  • Comply with local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; advising customers on product, service, or equipment adherence to requirements; advising customers on needed actions.
  • Prepare Sales Engineering reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising sales information and engineering and application trends.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and participating in professional societies.
  • Contribute to Sales Engineering effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; and implementing directives.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

To succeed, you need:

  • Understanding compressed air systems is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to forge strong, long-lasting relationships with client decision-makers.
  • Ability to creatively explain and present complex concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
  • Solid technical background with understanding and/or hands-on experience in O&G rental air compressor solutions and the O&G rental market.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation and creativity skills.
  • Willingness to travel.
  • BA/BS degree or equivalent, preferably with an engineering base.
  • Undertaken formal ales scoaching training.

Job-specific skills:

  • Optimise rental prospects, customers and opportunities, market sectors/segments, products and services that will bring sustainable and profitable growth to this UK oil & gas rental business.
  • Identify applications, projects and opportunities and follow up to successful closure.
  • Actively participate in group meetings with regular interaction communications and reports including marketing intelligence.
  • Maintain and update communications across the management and sales team by optimizing company Proactive Sales Management tools including the Customer Management Relationship (CRM) tool (R PSM) and Net Promoter Score on a daily basis.
  • Improve our customer base through regular interaction and customer care communications.
  • Liaise and interact with other managers and colleagues within the rental to optimize consolidated results.
  • Maximize our presence and market share within UKCS rental where there are applications for Atlas Copco products.
  • Deliver KPIs that will allow us to meet the set company goals and targets.
  • Undertake ad-hoc sales work and perform related duties as may be requested by the Sales & Business Development Manager.
