The team

Our News team delivers high quality and trustworthy television and online coverage that regularly attracts audiences in excess of 3.5 million viewers. It’s a fast moving environment with a huge variety of roles and challenges on offer. We operate in 11 main news production centres across England, Northern Ireland, Wales and the Channel Islands. We also have a Political Unit based in the heart of Westminster. And finally, we produce a range of current affairs & factual programming out of ITV Wales, UTV and ITV Border.

The role

Are you an experienced Journalist looking to expand your reporting skills and experience? ITV News Border has an opportunity for an exceptional journalist to join the team.

As an established self-starter, you will immerse yourself in the Scottish Borders, ensure our newsgathering reflects the different communities that make up our audience and develop great contacts to deliver agenda-setting coverage.

We are a multi-platform operation so you will be enthusiastic about developing an online presence through our websites, via social media interaction and our regional ITVX content.

You will have a proven track record for delivering impactful, high-quality, distinctive journalism on television, online and on social media.

You’ll be experienced at seeking out great stories and bringing them to life in creative and engaging ways on screen and online. You will have excellent editorial judgement and a sound knowledge of media law. Experience of self-shooting, editing and live reporting is desirable.

The role will be based in Selkirk, with close links to Edinburgh and Newcastle. There are also opportunities to work in our Gateshead studio and Carlisle newsroom.

• 
  On-Screen Journalists are required to provide their own means of transport to and from location. The vehicle must be appropriately insured, taxed and maintained. ITV will cover mileage expenses in line with HMRC regulations.

• This is a demanding role requiring long and sometimes unsociable hours at short notice.

• This is a physically demanding role requiring individuals to transport, carry and operate a camera (and associated equipment) on a regular basis. A pre-employment health check is required.

• The rostered hours for this role will include weekend, early and late working.

Skills you’ll need (minimum criteria)

• Proven track record of delivering impactful, original, high-quality & distinctive journalism on television and online.
• Proven technical ability (self shooting, editing, live reporting & digital) to give the story maximum impact as part of a package,live report, online article, and social media post.
• A strong knowledge of media law & compliance and the ability to exercise excellent editorial judgement.

• Experience of working effectively as part of a team.
• An understanding of the importance of Diversity and Inclusion in determining output.
• A good knowledge of the ITV News region to which you are applying.
• Experience of using social media as a promotional tool.
