Key Responsibilities:
Perioperative Patient Care:
- Assist in the preparation of the operating room and ensure all necessary equipment is available.
- Collaborate with the surgical team to provide comprehensive patient care during preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases.
- Monitor patient vital signs and respond promptly to any changes.
Surgical Assistance:
- Prepare and handle surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist surgeons during procedures, anticipating their needs and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Ensure the safe and efficient functioning of equipment in the operating room.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with fellow healthcare professionals, including surgeons, nurses, and anesthetists, to ensure seamless coordination during surgical procedures.
- Communicate effectively within the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
Documentation and Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
- Document all aspects of perioperative care, including preoperative assessments and postoperative observations.
Adherence to Policies and Procedures:
- Follow established protocols, guidelines, and infection control measures to maintain a safe and effective working environment.
- Stay informed about advancements in perioperative care and integrate best practices into daily routines.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Operating Department Practitioner.
- Relevant academic qualifications in ODP or equivalent.
- Proven experience working in perioperative care, preferably in a variety of surgical specialties.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to dynamic surgical environments.
