Job description

Our Hospital Discharge Service in Renfrewshire has recently been re-shaped, with focus on patient flow in acute NHS hospitals, and discharge planning in line with assessment processes.

The development of our Intermediate Care Service hosted by one of our HSCP Care Homes has been a positive addition to our service delivery options.

There has been a service delivery focus developed to align care home, intermediate care and day service placements through effective and efficient processes.

Our day services for people living with a disability, and for Older People have undergoing a number of changes in recent years with a hybrid model of service delivery.

An Operational Manager is sought who has operational responsibility for the management of these service areas, and will demonstrate leadership to the managers and staff teams providing our services.

The teams are multi-stied and the Operational Manager will operate in accordance with the Council’s WORKSMART arrangements which promote mobile and flexible work practices. The Operational Manager will be equipped as a mobile worker and able to operate throughout the Renfrewshire area from any Council premises. You will therefore be expected to travel throughout the Council area.

The Operational Manager is responsible for delivering agreed national and local performance targets within Renfrewshire, with a flexible approach and a proactive, approachable manner with ability to supervise, motivate, engage and inspire teams.

Applicants must be educated to degree level in Social Work, Health or equivalent, or hold a professional qualification in Social Work, Health or equivalent, and evidence a practical working knowledge and experience of relevant legislation.

Applicants should have experience of managing demanding and complex service areas and activities, including leading multidisciplinary/agency teams and activities.

It is essential that applicants have knowledge and understanding of finance/budget management, and can evidence a track record of working in partnership with key stakeholders to measurably improve service delivery, including performance management.

It will be necessary for applicants to evidence their experience of managing complex change successfully, as well as demonstrating knowledge in relation to challenging existing ways of working and promoting and leading improved practice as part of wider service improvement.

Applicants will have proven skills in evaluating service demand/delivery, predicting resource constraints and overcoming obstacles, with demonstrable ability to analyse complex information, problems and solutions.

Please note that this post is temporary, subject to business needs and funding for 12 Months or until the requirement for the post ceases, whichever date is the earlier.

The service operates 7 days a week, and successful applicants will be offered a 35-hour contract. For further information please contact Phil MacDonald, Service Manager by email at phil.macdonald@renfrewshire.gov.uk

If successful, you will be required to undertake a Disclosure Scotland check, the level of check will be determined by the duties of the post.
