Following Local Government Reorganisation, Trading Standards now coordinates the Event Safety Advisory Group (SAG) work formerly undertaken by district councils.

Event SAGs provide a forum for discussing and advising on public safety at an event. They aim to help organisers with the planning and management of an event, and to encourage cooperation and coordination between all relevant agencies. Event SAGs are non-statutory bodies with no legal power to approve or prohibit events from taking place. Event organisers and others involved in the running of an event retain the principal legal duties for ensuring public safety and it is therefore essential that the Operational Support Officer has the communication skills necessary to build effective relationships with organisers and other partners.

This post will sit within a new small team consisting of a senior trading standards officer, an enforcement officer and an Operational Support Officer.

The Operational Support Officer will work under supervision to provide assistance and support to the team and will often be the first point of contact between event organisers and the team.

You will also have the opportunity to assist officers with wider trading standards and consumer protection work, including safety of sports grounds SAGs. The successful applicant will be encouraged to complete the level 4 Regulatory Compliance Apprenticeship.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in helping to set up and deliver a new, high-profile area of work.
