The Company
At Coastal Workboats, we are passionate about engineering vessels that thrive in challenging marine environments.
Operating from our new shipyard in Stornoway and supported by our facility in Devon, we are a leading UK-based builder of Steel and Aluminum commercial workboats. Our portfolio spans aquaculture, marine tourism, and scientific research sectors both nationally and internationally. Working in collaboration with leading naval architects such as Damen Shipyards and Incat Crowther we have built a number of industry leading vessels. These include RRS Sir David Attenborough's workboat, Terror, which won Best Landing Craft in the 2020 Work Boat World Awards.
As we expand our footprint to Stornoway, we are seeking skilled individuals to join our team. We are in an exciting period of growth, which will see our current loyal and hardworking team of circa 25 employees develop and expand into two new ship building facilities in both Devon and Scotland. This expansion will support our vision to modernise shipbuilding in the UK, with the use of advanced technologies whilst upskilling and developing our valued team.
We are now looking for an Operations Manager to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis at our new facility in Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis, Scotland.
The Stornoway location of our Coastal Workboats Scotland Ltd company is supported by our head office in Devon.

The Role
As the Operations Manager, you will oversee our Stornoway shipyard facility whilst managing production programmes.
Specifically, you will work on the first UK built, fully electric steel workboat, as well as a range of other commercial vessels, built to be used across a variety of exciting and practical industries.
Working closely with Designers, Engineers and Supervisors, you will ensure effective communication, project delivery and management of site operations.
A key part of this role will be helping to create a strong health and safety culture among the team in our new ‘state of the art’ facility.
Additionally, you will:
- Act as the link between our Stornoway and Devon sites
- Implement our quality management system
- Manage staff and sub-contractors
About You
To be considered as our Operations Manager, you will need:
- Experience overseeing large scale projects
- A good understanding of cross-disciplined production processes involved in shipbuilding
- Broad manufacturing knowledge
- Team management skills
- Health and safety management skills
