We are looking for an Operations Manager (Publishing) to join us at Reach Sport & Mirror Books.
Home to some of the UK and Ireland’s most iconic publishing brands, Reach are leaders in the field of sport publishing.
Alongside our everyday coverage in print and digital, we also work with some of the biggest clubs and sporting competitions to produce exclusive matchday and event programmes, magazines and books, enabling fans to get their hands on even more behind-the-scenes stories from their favourite teams.
Reach Sport and Mirror Books are looking for an excellent candidate to join us as our Operations Manager.
This is an exciting role tasked with helping to define our current production processes and workflows in order to boost the performance and growth trajectory of the business.
We’re looking for fresh ideas and new perspectives from people from a wide range of backgrounds, and we want you to tell us the stories you believe are important from our many communities so we can continue to diversify our content.

Job Description
What will the role involve?
The Operations Manager will be an experienced production journalist with a strong all-round knowledge of periodical and book publishing processes. You will need a positive change mindset and be excited to identify and execute new strategies to help this business deliver more, at pace.
An excellent communicator and leader, able to identify and evaluate opportunities, solve problems and deliver under pressure, this role will enable the department to focus resources in key areas as it rapidly evolves under challenging market conditions.
The Operations Manager will be responsible for leadership of the Reach Sport and Mirror Books Production Team, leading a team of around 15 production journalists incorporating writing and design plus external resources and experts as required.
Qualifications
Who are we looking for?
A senior journalist and people manager with NCTJ or equivalent qualification and media law knowledge, or relevant time served within industry who is a clear communicator, comfortable meeting tight deadlines on a daily basis and confident in dealing with people at varying levels of seniority.
You will have a track history of senior editorial production management, lead and implement best production practice across all areas and work with leaders to create an agile print and digital media business.
You will have previous experience in an editorial environment, with an understanding of commercial functions and willingness to be flexible. You will be organised, composed under pressure and confident leading a team whilst having excellent attention to detail.
