Geoffrey Miller Solicitors is a highly respected law firm specialising in motoring criminal defence law in the UK. Recognised as industry leaders with offices in Salford and London, employing a wealth of experience, providing expert legal representation and guidance to clients.
JS Miller Solicitors is a separate trading name for serious motoring criminal prosecution cases and serious civil litigation.

Hours: 40 hours per week/Monday to Friday 8am-5pm with a flexible 1-hour lunch break
Salary £30K – £35K (depending on experience)

Key Responsibilities
People
- Lead, coach and mentor a team of legal professionals and operational support staff, provide guidance, direction, and support to ensure high performance and productivity levels;
- Set clear objectives/KPIs for team, regularly review and monitor performance, provide guidance and support to achieve both business and individual objectives;
- Monitor and evaluate performance; provide feedback through regular one-to-ones;
- Support the training and development plans for the team to enhance their competencies; and
- Regularly review talent and capability in the team to manage the talent pipeline; and
- Adhoc support to the higher management team.
Processes
- Co-ordinate and prioritise activities, ensuring tasks are completed accurately within established deadlines and as per firm policies and procedures;
- Manage resources (holidays, absences, out of office days etc) to minimise business interruption;
- Analyse existing processes and identify opportunities for improvement to enhance efficiency and effectiveness;
- Analyse and interpret data to create and maintain operational efficiency and support management decisions;
- Business reporting, providing business updates; and
- Approve payments as part of delegated authority.
Operations
- Allocation, delegation and monitoring of tasks and activities of team and managing adherence to deadlines and quality standards;
- Identify and mitigate operational risks, implementing controls and protocols in line with operational processes;
- Management of HR processes for team (recruitment, induction, training, performance management etc.); and
- Flexibility to support issues that may occur out of hours.
Person Requirements
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a legal firm (motoring or general criminal defence advantageous but not essential);
- Knowledge and understanding of the legal framework;
- Ability to input and interpret data;
- A team player and role model to establish a positive team culture, build strong relationships, promote effective communication, and facilitate collaboration and success;
- Commercially aware and knowledge of setting and delivering business objectives and driving performance; and
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and high ethical standards.
Skills and competencies
- Excellent people management skills with experience of recruiting, onboarding, training, and performance management;
- Excellent organisation and time management skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple priorities;
- Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data and metrics to make informed decisions;
- Proficiency with MS Office suite and experience with relevant operational software tools;
- Effective communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with an ability to build strong stakeholder relationships;
- Solution orientated with the ability to promote and implement prevention strategies; and
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail with excellent standards of spelling and grammar.
Qualifications
- A recognised management and/or HR qualification preferred but not essential.
