Job Description


With overall responsibility for operational training, the Operations Trainer will work with
the depot leadership and OJT(s) to ensure every team member has the knowledge and
skill needed to do their job, to the required legal or compliance standard and to meet
performance targets.

Working alongside the appropriate central departments, e.g., National Operations, Health
& Safety, Security, Transport and People & Talent, they will be a role model for best practice
and provide support and expertise on all appropriate policies and procedures. Skilled in
planning and highly organised, the Operations Trainer will anticipate and adapt to
business priorities to ensure their training plan is both effective and efficient.

Key Tasks/Areas of Responsibility:-

  • Build a solid network of in/external relationships in order to ensure your knowledge and understanding of appropriate policies and procedures is continuously updated
  • Act as the main point of contact for all operations training queries and information
  • Ensure your Regional Manager and site manager have the timely and accurate data need to make informed decisions
  • Agree a training schedule that ensures completion meets all legal timelines and standards, e.g., compliance and H&S
  • Demonstrate an agile and efficient approach to training design and planning in order adapt to changing learner/business needs and minimise any impact on operational performance
  • Use a variety of tools and performance data to proactively identify training needs and implement appropriate learning solution(s)
  • Design training materials ensuring they are compliant with any legal or compliance standards and are maintained, as required
  • Create a consistent and positive experience for all new starters, ensuring all onboarding and induction procedures are and training are completed in full
  • Deliver/over-see the delivery of all required planned or ad hoc training, e.g., compliance, systems, refresher, processes or Business/Career Start (one-to-one, group, on the job, classroom or digital)
  • Supervise and develop the OJTs to ensure their continuous development
  • Provide ad hoc training, guidance or support to specific individuals, e.g., new drivers or managers
  • Maintain accurate records of all training completion, providing report and data as required
  • Evaluate the impact and effectiveness of training on individual and operational performance, using observation, surveys, feedback and KPI data
  • Use the Learning Management System to facilitate and administer training
  • Provide additional training support within the Network, as needed

Qualifications


To be considered for this role you will have excellent training delivery skills, and be able to confidently adapt your approach to meet the needs of your audience you will also have:-

  • Proven ability to make balanced decisions that balance business and learner needs
  • Approachable, engaging and authentic communication style
  • Role model for the DPD Core Values and DNA
  • Solution-focused attitude, demonstrating agility, resilience and a drive for continuous improvement
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills
  • Confident in the use of internal systems and Google Workspace
  • Minimum Level 3 Learning and Development Practitioner
