Job description

Looking for a rewarding trade career as a Operative Gas engineer Use your skills to help Fairhive repair, maintain and improve affordable housing in Buckinghamshire.

Fairhive is a non-profit affordable housing provider with ambition. We already provide affordable housing to more than 20,000 people in our community but we want to do more. That’s why we are striving to provide 1,000 additional homes by 2025.

Our trades team play a vital role in the provision of our services from repairing and maintaining existing housing stock to managing environmental improvements to provide more families in our community with a home.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Operative Gas engineeto join our team and to help us achieve our social mission.

On the Job you will:

1. To attend the Fairhive's housing stock and liaise with tenants to service/identify and diagnose mechanical defects.
2. To determine the most cost effective and expedient solution.
3. To carry out repair/installation as necessary
4. To undertake both responsive and planned maintenance of mechanical services to properties owned or managed by the Fairhive.
5. To execute workmanship to a high standard and ensure it is carried out in line with Gas Safe and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regulations and any other relevant legislation covering safety in the workplace for self and others

About You

We’re looking for someone who understands how important it is to have a safe place we can call home and who is motivated to support the local community.

For this role you will need:

  • Hold City & Guilds Part III /NVQ level 3 in Mechanical
  • Domestic - ACS CCN1, ACS CEN1, ACS HTR1, ACS WAT1, ACS CKR1, ACS CPA1, CENWAT
  • Desirable OFTEC OFT10-101, LPG CoCN1, SOLAR THERMAL (MTC & MCS), ASHP (MCS), UNVENTED G3
  • Hold a valid Driving Licence
  • Be able to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
  • Be able to use both documentation and IT systems for reporting and maintaining records
  • Be able to work to strict deadlines
  • Be capable of working efficiently, effectively, diligently and courteously without the need for constant supervision repair tasks to domestic properties
  • Have an excellent awareness of current Health and Safety regulations backed up by evidence of relevant training, and the ability to work in a safe manner
  • Have good verbal and written skills including having the ability to liaise with our customers
  • Substantial post qualification experience in Repair, Maintenance and installation of mechanical works both in occupied and unoccupied properties including inspections, defects analysis and specifying repairs
  • Good level of physical fitness, including the ability to lift, work at heights and in differing conditions
  • Be able to work as part of a team
  • Have previous Public Sector/ Social Housing repairs experience

You will ideally have skills and attributes that include:

  • practical problem solving skills
