Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for highly motivated Ophthalmic Technician to work in the busy ophthalmic department at King's college hospital, Denmark Hill.
The successful applicant will be a highly motivated person who is quick and willing to learn new skills. It would be great if you already have work experience within NHS or have previously worked in an Ophthalmology setting, but most important is enthusiasm to learn and the ability to work in a busy environment.
The role will include working alongside the Ophthalmic nurses, assessing the patients attending Ophthalmology clinics and performing the diagnostic imaging tests that those patients require. You will be expected to assist the nursing team in the safe and effective delivery of patient-focused care in all areas of the Ophthalmology department.
The successful candidate will be subject to probation.
Support patients attending for consultation, examinations and procedures
Provide assistance for outpatient nurses and medical staff in preparation and delivery of care to patients
Carry out assessment of patient’s visual acuity and visual fields as well as utilising (after appropriate training) equipment to undertake more complex assessments
Act as a chaperone during Outpatient consultations and examinations and assist in the positioning of patients for examination.
Ensure that all equipment is clean and well maintained, reporting any issues as identified.
Ensure all care is documented correctly and that patients notes (Electronic and written) are maintained and are available for the clinicians.

Please note Working hours ( 7 day working contract)
3 days x 8am -6.30pm
1 day x 8am - 4pm
Above working hours are non negotiable due to service requirement and vary during weekend/bank holidays.
Weekend shifts are part of this post .
